Congratulations to Liverpool

This season he has appeared to be playing more as the "2" in a 4-4-2 than anything else this season

but we can agree to disagree ;)

I don't think he's played as an out and out striker all season.

He's deffo played the "shadow" striker role, so just behind Torres and he's deffo being playing a central attacking midfield with Kuyt and Reina ? on the right and left side.

Won 5-1 on aggregate against United in 93/94 :p *had to ask the old man about this* in the League cup, and there were 5 scored against them in 93/94 aswell :) we think ;)

Either way - the only diff is the wide men, still wouldnt say Gerrard has played as an AM most of this season ;)

So we only play with 2 midfielders?

He's never played right up top alongside Torres in a 4-4-2. He's played 2/3's of the season as 1 of 3 behind Torres and early in the season (because of injuries and the Olympics) he played as 1 of a 2 man central midfield.

Liverpool have won 58 trophies, while Manchester United have won 56. Liverpool are the most successful club in England. Manchester United are more dominant domestically.

Sorry, I don't get your point here? I wasn't talking about 50 years ago, I was talking about the modern game. Where quite frankly Liverpool are a long way behind Chelsea, Arsenal, and Utd. Frankly, since the Premier League formed Liverpool have been a second rate team.

Now, I don't like Liverpool, but for the last quarter of the season they were in amazing form, if that is just down to luck you seriously need to watch more football. Liverpool, in my opinion don't have a brilliant team on paper, but my god football isn't played on paper, and this season Liverpool have shown themselves to be the second best team over 38 games.

Sorry they don't have a good squad on paper? When gerrard decides to play fairly he can be one of the best in the world. And did they not buy Torres, who happened to be one of the most in form strikers?

Yes, because since 1871 Liverpool have won 58 trophies, two more then Manchester United. Recent history ? isn't important in footballing terms. Nottingham Forest have won the European cup as many times as Manchester United, and Real Madrid have won the European cup more times then you've spent years on this earth.

Why is "recent history" not important? Surely that is their current form? Notts Forest won in Europe in 1980. Does that mean they are better than Man Utd now then? Obviously you are right. Liverpool won everything 50 years ago so they must be the best team now as well.

Liverpool are obviously THE most succesful English Club in history.

Didn't argue this? Again History, nice in a trophy cabinet but doesn't win games in 2009 does it?

Mr Wenger has a claim to fame on being arrogant, Benitez has never come across as arrogant imo.

LOL. Yes Wenger used to be as arrogant as hell partly for being a ***** and partly because he was sort of entitled to seeing as Arsenal raped everyone at one stage. But he has learned from his mistakes and he is one of the most respectable managers now and will always congratulate the other team and accept defeat (just like Fergie, Mourinho, Hiddink, ...)
Benitez not arrogant? Won't even bother with that one.

Gerrard is the best English midfielder we currently have, yes he dives, but so do most top level proffessionals. "biggest diving cheat" goes to Drogba.

Yes. 90% footballers dive. It is getting ridiculous. Drogba looks like a complete idiot half the time when he towers over most other players and still manages to hit the deck. But he doesnt fall over for no reason. He makes the most of being pushed about when really he should be smacking them back and getting on with it. Gerrard trips over thin air. Just youtube it before you argue.

Maybe, next season Liverpool will remove the dead wood, and bring in some more quality, and push Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal further in their quest for the English League.

Maybe. But to be honest I think the 4th contender is more likely to be Man City after a £500m spending spree or Harry Houdini's revamped Spurs.

No, I am NOT a Liverpool fan.

Neither am I.

To be fair we hopefully should have a £20m player already on the books that hardly played at all this season all fit and ready before the cheque book opens (Hargreaves) , who I personally think was a huge loss this season which contributed to a few iffy results (certainly just as many as where Torres or Gerrard wherent playing)

Congrats to DannyJo also

Thanks and to be totally honest I'd completely forgotten about hargreaves  I forgot you even had him. Like Torres at liverpool I hope you can get him fit and playing because we never really got much more than glimpse of how good he could be for your lot. That will be a big bomus to have him back.

Personally I'm suprised you haven't come in for cahill, I think he would be a great utility player to fill in at united and wouldn't complain about being worth 30 million and not playing every game. Both him and arteta I worry about Fergie making a claim for.

Yeah, apparently the best team doesn't win the league. D'oh!

I wasn't on about that. That wasn't a lack of class, this was just stupidity. All the best teams get knocked out of all competitions and finish runners up.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez declined to congratulate Sir Alex Ferguson on Manchester United's title triumph.

The Red Devils secured their third successive Premier League crown on Saturday to move level with the Anfield outfit's all-time English record of 18 titles.

Benitez and Ferguson have rarely seen eye-to-eye this term, with the Spaniard launching an astonishing attack earlier in the season with his presentation of a series of 'facts' relating to United and Ferguson.

The Scot responded later in the campaign by accusing Benitez of 'arrogance' and 'contempt' in his dealings with fellow top-flight managers.

United overtook the Reds at the top of the table in January and then eased clear to claim the title with a game to spare, despite a brief wobble when they were beaten 4-1 at home by their rivals.
Respect

Benitez was happy to offer his praise to United but stopped short of saluting his managerial counterpart, with his increasingly bitter feud with Ferguson clearly still a factor.

The Spaniard said: "I will say congratulations to Manchester United. They have done well, but I do not want to say too much.

"I prefer just to say well done to the club, a big club, a good club.

"Normally you have to be polite and respect the other manager. During the season we have seen a lot of things that I didn't like, so that's it.

"I say congratulations to United because they have won. And that's it."

I see Benitez has shown his usual lack of class today. God I detest that man, he's the only thing about Liverpool I don't like.

Apart from his comments about Man.U. winning the PL he also said this:

"On an economic level we cannot fight with the other big teams, at least for now, in particular because of the stadium," added Benitez.

"Manchester United's Old Trafford has 76,000 seats, Arsenal's Emirates has 60,000 and Chelsea can count on Abramovich.

"Until we have a new stadium, we will not be able to compete economically. In the meantime we'll have to do things very well to be competitive."

He's an idiot, he's spent more than Arsenal and Man.U. have on players since he's been in charge.
Perhaps he's trying the Fergie approach to football facts now, ie if he says it the supporters think it must be true;)

He commented on Man Utd spending more earlier in the season at which point is was proven wrong, yet he brought it back up again. Like his famous 'fachts' that were just blatent bull****.

The thing is though as I said, there are 10's of Liverpool fans who will think what he says is true.

Proven wrong? Think it was Fergie who got that one wrong.

Sky had Benitez as being wrong too.

What did he say that was wrong? We can't compete financially, we make far less money than Utd and Arsenal because of the stadiums.

And Utd have spent far more than us.

As for congratulating Ferguson. Why should he? He congratulated Utd as a Club which is far more than most Liverpool fans would do :p

Sky had Benitez as being wrong too.

And as we all know, Sky know **** all. Every where that reported Fergies 'rant' said he was completely wrong.

edit: Nokkon, you talk about Benitez not having any class, what did you think about the BS Fergie and Fat Sam came out with after Rafa's 'game-over' jesture? You also said Kuyt lacked class for taking the **** after we scored our 3rd vs Hull, what about Evra doing the same thing vs Wigan?
