Overclocking a 8500GT

Yup, they clock like crazy, should get atleast 60% overclock. Even with linked shaders/core you should get to around 720MHz on the core. Tho the memory probably won't overclock much.

ok i've got the 1gb version of the 8500gt - if that makes any differnece.

what should i set the following to -

2D
Core memory

3D Low power
core memory

3D Pref
core memory.

cheers

well the i've upped them abit

defaults were -

GPU Clock 459 MHz
Memory 400MHz
Shader 928MHz

new settings

GPU Clock 734MHz
Memory 508MHz
Shader 1469MHz

idles around 45-48 degrees

look ok?

Have you tested it to see if its stable at that clock? you can use the artifact tester in ATI Tool tho (worked ok with the 8500 last I checked) or furmarks extreme burn test.

not checked it yet - but everything seems ok.

i know its a crap card, but i'll be buying a complete system soon, so this will help my son play games when he gets it. :)

it doubled my 3dmark score anyway :)

When overclocked to 700+ they can manage medium settings at 1280x res in most newer games aslong as you don't turn the FSAA up too much.

i used atitool to overclock, however when i restart my computer the graphics card resets to the default settings, is there anyway to keep the setting i want?

cheers

That Overclock you've got there's quite Harsh!

You sure it's not show Artifacts?

Hmmm

Nah thats quite possible with the 8500GT - they will do anything upto 1500MHz shader fine, about 1500 they get flaky, and whatever the max core clock that shader clock will let you up it to...

The memory on both of mine wouldn't clock more than about 480 or so :S

Yeah ATItool has a save function for your overclock. I just load the overlcock before i game and dont bother changing it if im watching vids or surfing.

Great clocks. Budget cards just dont clock like that these days :(
