After a long search process Bear Grylls has been announced as the 10th Chief Scout. The youngest one ever at 34 years old and a really enthusiastic guy to lead the movement. I was at the meeting where his nomination was officially approved and had a chance to chat to him. He's a great guy and is going to be an inspiration for the whole of the Scout Association.

What do you lot think of him?

ray mears actually gives proper advice.

Grylls is a shocking choice, in my opinion. I can appreciate that they want to give scouting a bit more flair and excitement, but there are way more appropriate choices of people with some actual knowledge and passion.

It's a TV show, of course it's fake. What's the point in unnecessary pain and suffering if it's not on camera anyway? I like him and hearing the *huge surprise* that some of the stuff is made to look more dramatic than it actually is, hasn't changed my opinion of him in the slightest.

Actual knowledge? He was in the Special Forces!!!

Nah full respect for the man and good on him for doing something for kids. You lot are a bunch of wingeing wallies.

Aside from that Grylls knows what he's doing.

That's lovely, but it doesn't make him any more experienced than other potential candidates.

I know a guy who was in the commandos. He's possibly the stupidest guy i know. He got discharged for mowing down one of his squad in a tank.

Ray mears would be a far more suitable candidate I would say, but on the flip side probably being seen as more adventurous (sp) will no doubt make a lot of children want to join

I like Ray Mears shows better but WHY!!! does he have to wear such short shorts. It liek watching you father in law or something in a pair of shorts that's 20 times to small for him
Gross

You didn't say experienced, you said knowledgeable, and he has knowledge in spade fulls. Do you honestly think he doesn't have decent survivor knowledge, and transferrable skills that he can apply to the scouts? Perhaps you think Peter Duncan knew more of survival than Bear Grylls?

As for your thick friend, I can't see what that's got to do with Grylls. Or do you believe that all special forces people are retards, even after you've heard them speaking eloquently and entertainingly on national TV?

He would have been good but he's a bit older, and the scouts are trying to attract young people. This is a real coup for The Scouts' marketing guys and girls.

Eloquence =/= intelligence.

Grylls is a fraud regardless of his history in the special forces, it's been proven countless times and he's even apologised a couple of times too.

Bear Grylls is a perfect choice. Exactly what the Scout movement needs.

Ray Mears although very skilled would bore most of the kids to death. In the past I'd probably have gone with Mears however with todays kids either swearing at grannies or generally being lazy ******, Grylls will hopefully have the right image to spur them on to make better use of their time in a positive way.

Should have been Ray Mears tbh.

Presumably Grylls will be teaching kids how to swipe a credit card at a local 5 star hotel (and how to survive in a 3 star one if there's no 5 star available).
