Nvidia card on a non nvidia chipset board?

New to the AM2+ and AM3 boards so do not know what is what when it comes to graphics card in a non nvidia chipset board.....
If I decided to get say a 790G/GX/FX board does that mean I can only use a non nvidia based graphics card?
If not then what do I do about the graphics card drivers seeing that the motherboard would be non nvidia based?

It's the same regardless of motherboard, the only thing that will differ is the SLi/Crossfire support.

Would it be better to get an ATI card?
What ATI card is the closest to the nvidia 9600GT?

Cpu and/or chipset is not relevant to which card u can use. As long as their is a pci-express slot then you are fine to use any nvidia or ati graphics card.
