Congratulations to Liverpool

Dont worry Liverpool fans there is a Gaurdian article (referred to in a Republik of Mancunia blog) that states since the turn of the last Century, according to a mathmatical formula (or statistic) Liverpool are due to win the title next before Utd are

Liverpool one two, then Utd did the same in the early 1900's and the last batch in the 80's etc Liverpool won 11 on the trot (the writer is only including the two clubs so ignoring when title is won by anyone else) - which Utd have now equalled again

I havent looked into whether its completely accurate but you have some hope!!!!

Hardly bitter, I gave man.u. some praise there I thought but if you're too stupid to see where I'm coming from its your loss.

Wooooo there Betty, bit harsh wasn't it?

I'm not stupid at all, you're the one that thinks we won it due to late goals and being lucky, when in reality Liverpool and Chelsea had as much luck as us over the course of the season and if you think we won it purely on we were lucky. I think you will find you're the one thats stupid

As the post directly under yours proves.

In fact there was an article in the Daily Mail (don't laugh) a month or so ago that showed Liverpool had got more late goals (last 5 mins I think it was) in the league than anyone else.

Wow obsessed Mancs, who would have thought it. You lot should be at your ground with the rest on the ***** singing about us every other week.

Who would have thought that there would be a little gloating after 19yrs of continually hearing '18' no matter what we won. Strange isn't it.

The quality of football that Man U played for the majority of the season shouldn't be good good enough to win you the EPL. The fact is the competition is so poor that you were always going to win it, doesn't mean you deserved too, but neither did anyone else.

Andy, we weren't always going to win it. Liverpool would have walked it if it wasn't for the collapse in January. We may have all joked that they would eventually slip up as per usual based on previous years, but they pushed us until the end. It left their hands and was out of their control and whenever that happens to a team, Utd will not let opportunities slip. I've not been impressed with the performances this season and I think it hinges on the defensive record that was ongoing for months, the focus of the team leaned towards maintaining clean sheets rather than everyone bombing forward and attacking more. Park, Fletcher, Carrick, Scholes, Anderson, all of them playing deep in midfield and it shows in the goal contributions they've made.

Truly we've only seen a few glimpses of the Man Utd form from previous seasons but the job was still done. As much as I feel a little underwhelmed overall about the season regarding some of the football played, we won the Carling Cup, were put out in penalties in the F.A Cup semi final, have won the league and reached the final of the Champions League. I don't know how much more the team could have done football wise to achieve more. There's been great football and then what I consider suicide football, it's been a rollercoaster for the fans. Aside from this we will have played 66 games this season, 11 more than Liverpool. We've competed on all fronts despite continual injuries over the park.

We deserved to win the league, we won more games than anyone else and will finish with the most points regardless of the final league game. The league table never lies, best team wins, worst 3 teams get relegated.

How many 1-0's did they manage against poor sides, Boro, Sunderland, Bolton, they were very lucky with late goals.

Luck plays a part. Liverpool second in the league arguably had more. They had more late goals than we did, which I don't begrudge because a game is 90 minutes long. They also had a phenomenal number of red cards against them, many of which were never red cards, so that's lucky.

The fact is we won the title, therefore we deserved it. Especially with the phenomenal number of injuries we've had this year.

Many? I can only think of 1 and late goals or players getting sent off is not down to luck. Oppo players have needed to resort to two footed lunging tackles or dragging our players down because they couldn't handle them (and not many of those red cards affected the outcome of the games either).

Regarding the injuries, all sides get injuries and yes you've had your fair share but so have most teams including ourselves.

That's all meaningless though, all that matters is that over 37 games you've ended up with 4 more points than us so you've deserved to win the league.

Cahill and Lampard spring straight to mind, others have been from soft yellows given. Some were definite reds, like Vidic' in the second game and Bartons.

Lampard was the only 1. Cahill didn't deserve to get a straight red for the tackle he got sent off for but deserved to go one way or another; he's got away with a very late tackle 10 mins before, then had a little slap at Arbeloa which the ref missed (players have been sent off for less before), the tackle on Alonso and then the discent that followed. The only other possible questionable red was Adebayor's which was two bookings for high, studs up challenges.

The other 7 have been clear cut.

It was but wrongly. IINM the guy in charge of Premier League officials wrote to the FA asking for an explanation and claimed the FA had undermind the ref who had made the correct decision. Several ex officials complained about it too.

There is an argument brewing between English Premier League referees and the Football Association following the FA’s decision to rescind Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel’s red card against Liverpool at Anfield on March 22nd..

The Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMO), which represents football’s leading officials, has written to the FA to demand an explanation on why they overturned the red card.

The Aston Villa goalie was sent off the pitch by referee Martin Atkinson for hauling down Liverpool striker Fernando Torres in the penalty area during Liverpool’s 5-0 win. The referees have stated that under the laws of the game a straight red card should have been given and it was.

But the FA has stated that Friedel was actually trying to get out of the way of Torres when he turned his back to him just before giving the penalty away.

A Premier League spokesman confirmed that the PGMO had indeed contacted the FA asking for an explanation on their decision.

didn't the League also say there was no argument and that the PGMO was just looking for clarification on the decision?

I have no idea. But by the letter of the law Friedel deserved to be sent off which the PGMO and several ex referee's also thought, which is why they wanted to know why it was overturned.

The situation was a strange one because Friedel done all he could to not foul Torres but he did bring him down and deny a clear goalscoring opportunity.

If we follow the laws of the game without any common sense applied then the number of penalties and red cards given would be phenomonal. regardless it was obviously a 'questionable' red, as the FA don't exactly take back red cards often.

Since when have the FA or Officials used common sense? He denied a clear goal scoring opportunity, it's a red card. There was no reason why it should have been overturned and only a comedy organisation like our FA could have made a decision like they did.

The FA also didn't punish Boswinga for his kung fu kick on Benayoun so that was unquestionably the right decision?

Im not sure what you're are trying to get at Dan, it was a clear red card or are you just being a neusense? :p

Ahh, a sensible reply that understood where I was coming from.

I've put in bold what I was making my point from, not many Man U fans have been impressed with their teams performances this season, which is why I said about if a team does play so poor why should they win the league? But obviously because other teams are worse!

I just think it's been a really crap season for quality of football, there were a few good games and yes Liverpool did challenge but no one really thought Man U would throw it away. So Man U were the best of a crap bunch :D

Hopefully next year will be better.

you're the one who stated that non of the other decisions were even questionable, and no, the ref got it wrong with Boswinga and unfortunately while the FA has the power to overturn a wrongly given straight red card it doesn't have the authority to overrule a decision that the referee has spotted and dealt with at the time. The ref had a poor game, Gerrard for instance could have gone.

I'm not fussed as we won the league and all that but your statement about the other red cards being unquestionable was wrong and to be honest the Boswinga thing was a bit irrelevant.
