I'm 22, 5 points on my Licence with a 316i SE 1.9 Compact.


not quite same as yours but like an above reply i use elephant and fully comp is just over £800

Maybe its because the size of your engine is directly proportional to the size of your penis?

Or maybe its just to clarify that it's a small engined BMW rather than a tiny engined BMW to someone who is new to the marque..
 
All you really have to ask is, does it have less than 6 cylinders? ...if the answer is yes, no one really cares anyway :p ...a BMW without a l6 (or more) is just another car. Hell, even the l6 320/520 are pretty yawn enducing, as 6'ers go, pretty refined though, which is really the point with those.

Oh I meant no offence to anyone with a 4 pot bimmer by the way, but if you cared ...you woulnd't have bought a 4 pot in the first place, I think.

320d's relatively competent IMO but still relatively boring...
 
Yea it is, although I don't quite consider it in the same way as the petrol models, it's a nice, well made, good to drive, economical mile muncher really.

I don't think you would buy the diesel if you were buying the BMW truly as 'the ultimate driving machine' ...the 2 litre diesel is better than the 4 cylinder petrols in my opinion, which you also wouldn't buy if your reason for buying the car was as a 'driving machine' as opposed to a decent bit of personal transport. Thus you can choose, for economical BMW motoring, either a 4 pot petrol or a 4 pot 2 litre diesel, the diesel is the best of that lot, I don't really know why you would buy a 4 pot petrol one tbh, people do obviously ...I don't understand it though.
 
Cost I'm guessing, because the 4 pot petrols are so pointless they're going for mondeo money now. I guess if you're looking at a 1.8 mondeo and could get a 318i, the badge and quality may appeal.

I wouldnt consider a 320d as an "ultimate driving machine" but I've considered one of a few occasions for the reasons you say - well made, good to drive mile muncher.

On a slight tangent, I was out with my dad looking in showrooms the other day as he's due his new company car in a few months. Went into BMW in exeter because he fancies a 3/5 series touring. In the pretty large showroom, they didnt have ANY 3 or 5 series on display. Does this not strike anyone else as being complete madness? I thought those 2 cars are their core market but the showroom was full of stupid "X" machines and stuff like the 1 series coupe... things I'd consider relatively niche
 
The cheapest insurance I've found so far is £1,628.55 from Churchill, using two reasonably good post codes (and my mother as an additional driver :eek:). £1.6k is much better than the £2 - 3k I was originally getting, and only about £400 more than what I am paying now :)

As has been said the Admiral group (Elephant, Admiral, Bell) are all quite good on insuring people, in anything to be honest.

I'm 22, 0NCB, 1 fault claim in Jan 08, 4 years on license and for me e36 328i it's £800...I started the insurance when I was 21.

I just did a quote on an e46 330i and got this...

£1200

I'd look at them for quote. ;)
 
Elephant quoted me £3293.83, Bell about £400 more than that. Problem is, I've held my license for only a year.

Quite depressing really, I sure hope Churchill quote holds for the next couple of months :eek: I could afford the £2 - 3k insurance, but I just don't want to be ripped off by an insurance company, who have a statutory right to print money.

2-3k on insurance. Are you mental? Even the 1.6k is pretty high, i refuse to pay over 1000 on insurance out of principle. Would rather wait a year or two for more ncb. As nice as the bmw will be it's not worth that. Not to me anyway.
