I created a thread a little while ago in regards to putting loft boards down.

Finished it now and it looks amazing and is really sturdy and now i am looking at possibly putting my computer up there.

Before i do this i am wondering about boarding the joists on the roof, what would be the best way of doing this so i have a flat ceiling all boarded above me.

Also, i am wanting to put a fairly long desk up there to fit 2 or 3 computers onto but the problem is finding a deep enough desk to fit a monitor and keyboard etc... on but which will fit through the loft hatch. Any ideas on a solution to this?

Thanks,

Andy

When me and my brother boarded the roof joists we just used sheets of plywood, we put insulation in there first right enough using thin sticks to secure it into place.

Keeps the dust out. Mind this was for just tyding a loft up in an old house not for spending time in... you're gonna need ventilation TBQFH

I got a oscilating fan lol

Maybe i'll get a window one day when i can afford it but i know they are very expensive.

If you can afford to do it and the design of your home allows it - get rid of the hatch altogether. Extend your stairs up all the way to a door to your loft. Thats what some good mates of mine did. No more hatch and extending laddder businness and it looks just awesome. Not to mention the ease with which you can move stuff in and out.

If not then a conversion is still good but be careful carrying high-cost equipment up there, make sure you got some dudes around to help out however strong the temptation is to lug the CPU tower on your shoulder Commando-style....

You could get a custom desk built in parts. Carry the bit up there and assemble once inside. Space is important up there and with a custom you get to design it as well - Google Sketchup rules for this. Im desigining my own ATM.

You could also use pine cladding. Could be cheaper.

As to the desk, measure the hatch first! You could always make your own, or buy 2 narrow ones and double them up.

I know little about these things but shouldn't you add support beams first if you plan on actually having a room up there?

Also what he is planning on using the room for will void any house insurance he has because of building regulations.

Nevermind its Aruffail so he probably hasn't done anything.
