This is my first i7. Budget is around £1k'ish. Focus is on games, video processing etc. I run Vista 64bit so do not need the OS. Will buy my Keyboard/Mouse separately.

Have a preference for nVidia cards and I really like the Samsung's because of the low noise. I have this case for another PC and thought it and the PSU were very good. Thoughts?

i am over budget sorry

the case and PSU combo was alright when is was ~£80 a year ago but for that price you could get an antec 300 which has better cooling and a modular power supply

don't buy an "overclocked" mobo/cpu/ram bundle, X58 mobo's are incredibley forgiving & easy to overclock & buying a preoverclocked bundle is frankly a waste of money that would be better spent elsewhere. i7 aint as trouble some as 775's are to get the best from. buy the parts seperatley & save yourself some cash.

Stick with Gigabyte, better RMA service - 5 working days - UK RMA centre.

If anything goes wrong with an Asus, the repairs goto Taiwan & take upto 2 1/2 months lol ridiculous.

no- not for i7, get an akasa nero/titan fenrir

Are OCZ PSUs rising in popularity now? I was under the impression before that they're quality/longevity wasn't really up there with the quality makes, but perhaps that's changed with the newer models.

Also the 24" screen and GTX 260 are a little out of balance imo, 285 for 24" would probably be better although 260 will do ok with the rest of the spec.

Thanks all, is there a "better" PSU I should consider? Like say a Corsair? I would prefer a modular one.

Yes I do qualify for shipping - might be due to the volume of money I've spent LOL.

Are any of the Cpu Coolers considered quiet/quieter?

Corsair PSU's are made by either CWT or Seasonic depending on PSU & use quality components, the OCZ ModXstreams are made by Sirtec International & use cheaper components so their dirt cheap to build & sell to us.

If you want the best the Seasonic M12D series are the ones to go for, but you pay twice as much, they use the latest tech, best components very high efficiency etc, also 5 year gurarntee with UK rma base, hence why I bought one - see my sig below.
