checked my oil last night and it turns out i need some :o
which isn't bad seeing as i haven't touched it in just under 10,000 miles

it's going to have a service in july, in maybe 3,000 miles max.

i don't really want to stick in 4 litres as they're just going to pour it away..
there's nothing wrong with sticking in a litre, so it's just in the acceptable position on the dip stick?

what's scary is that it's below the acceptable point on the dipstick, but the light hasn't come on. i mean how littel oil does there have to be for the light to come on?

it's a tdi :p

it had its service in october @ 119,000 km
it's now on ~133,000 and i haven't put any oil into it

i'd say that's pretty good going seeing as it holds 4.5 litres

having said that, VW 505 01 5W-40 might be difficult to come by out here in the sticks without getting raped by the VW dealer :(

if you have to put 4L in then your sump is practically empty

get it above minimum and it will be safe to drive. the oil light warns of low oil pressure, ie when the pump runs dry. VWs arnt as smart as BMWs, they can tell the oil level when the engine is running

Oil light in most cars = too late.

You really need to top that thing up ASAP. Running it below minimum mark is not good.

to save on the hassle and cost id be tempted to just get the service done early

i would, but that's not happening. i'm not paying norwegian labour rates (£105/hr) and prices when i can get it for ~£35/hr back home at my local seat dealer.

plus SEAT no longer exists in norway, and my nearest 'dealer' is 200 miles away :p

just gonna stick in a litre or so and get it done when i get back in july

bloke in the local esso/garage assured me that some mobil1 5w30 is what i need, as that's what he uses in all VW diesels, even though it clearly stated it was for VW diesels EXCEPT PD engines
they only had 505.00 and not 505.01

have ordered 2 litres of 5W40 505.01 off fuchs' norwegian site for half the price :)

:D

it just seems such a waste only having it in for 2000 miles :(
still, £10 of oil is better than a broken car :o

my 20 year old rover can tell you if the oil level is low when running! and coolant
