Hello,

I have a Samsung LE40B651T 40" 1080p LCD TV which has the following specs:

# 120,000:1 Dynamic Contrast
# 100Hz
# Built-in digital TV tuner
# 4x HDMI, 2x SCART, 1x Component

My question is. Would this be good for gaming using my PC or will i be best to get a console, thinking of a PS3?

whats your thoughts please?

Depends what type of games you like (on recommending a PS3 or not) and if your system can run 1920 x 1080 at graphics levels you can put up with.

Hi tony and Slogan.

My spec at present isnt that great, 4870 and 3.6ghz Quad. But i plan to move to i7 and a 295GTX.

If i was to get a high end spec PC which could run these resolutions, will the gaming be as good on the TV as say a 24" TFT monitor?

I like racing games and games such as Call of duty :)

Cheers again for reply's lads.

It will depend on how far you sit from it, i've messed about putting games on my 40" 1080p Samsung TV but at normal pc usage distances (about 3 feet from monitor) it is simply too big to play games on properly, if you were further back it'd be fine.

Everything i've thrown on it has been flawless at 1080p on an E8400/9800GTX maxed out but I only ever last about 30 minutes before my eyes hurt and I go back to my 3007WFP which is actually the ideal size for gaming as far as I am concerned :)

loopyjuice, thanks for your input :)

I think i will go with a ps3 as it has the blu-ray which is a nice extra. I have a 24" Dell but its around 2years old now so i was debating the NEC 24".;)

Only prob is i dont want a high quality 24" if the TV can be just as good.

Yea thats what im thinking, you can get like a 40" TV for around £500-600 some places, and the NEC monitor is only a 24" for around £400-500. I have a 50" (for the ps3) but for the PC its kinda rubbish :(.
Now im thinking on what i should get the NEC 24" or a 40" TV lol... for my new build :D

The samsung TV i have is the new model, it has gaming mode and really is top notch. Watch blu-rays is in another league from my Dell 2407 24" TFT.

This is a tough one to call, PS3 may be the way forward i think :p

playing on a 46" samsung too, its an amazing experience.

I did notice though that I tend to play a bit worse when it comes to fast paced games, like COD4 simply because of the size. one a small screen you can focus on the centre of the screen and still have the map etc comfortably in your peripheral vision. at 46", depending on how close you sit you actually have to move your head to see the map in the corner, and you sometimes see enemies popping up on the screen edges a bit too late.
so I guess it depends what kind of gamer you are, if you are competitive, a smaller screen may suit you better, if you just want to have a blast and dont care whether you could possibly play better, go for it, I love it :)

Since when "isn't that great" ?? Its a pretty good spec IMHO and gaming wise i7 doesn't give much an advantage over the quad. Stick with the quad and go 295gtx if you must.

I game on my 24" monitor and my 50" Kuro and let me assure you that no monitor could ever match the picture quality offered by my Kuro.

LCD tvs and Plasma are excellent for PC gaming on provided as others have said you have the hardware to do it.
