So I'm off to Malaysia in the morning. After flapping around trying to get everything sorted the one thing I've completely forgot to sort out was exchanging some £ for Malaysia Ringgits.

So come 3pm this afternoon I've given up calling various travel agents and post office's. The airport themselves said don't worry about it. Just exchange it at your midway stop (Which is Dubai). Newcastle airport can't help me as they only cover currency for direct flights it seems.

Still can't help worrying. Will I be ripped off at Dubai Airport?

Maybe I'm better off just using a cash machine once I get to Malaysia. My bank have advised of £1.50 charge for withdrawels.

Any suggestions?

If you're worried about getting ripped off in Dubai, does the £1.50 charge really seem like that big of a deal?

All the times ive been to Malaysia I never needed money I just traded stories with the locals.

Note: I have never been to Malaysia

Why are you going via Dubai when there is a plethora of direct flights

Probably the cheapest flight he can find...
Malaysia Airline recently put up cheap direct flights (certain days were even cheaper than that Saudi airline...)

I wonder what kinda rate your bank would give you on a cash machine?

You could always use a bureau de change once you arrive in Malaysia (assuming you don't arrive in a godawful hour. Exchange rate may not be too good either)

If you're off to Kuala Lumpur enjoy the airport! its fantastic!

Just my 2p but when I was in KL last November I had a nightmare with my cards. NONE of them would work in any of the cash points I tried, and I have a few cards from a few banks. Both my debit card and credit cards. Never had a problem in another country before. Soon as I got to Singapore my credit card (granted first card I tried) worked. Just fyi...

Hopefully OP has a HSBC card or something Visa credit cards (most of them work).

In my experience you're not going to get a great rate getting your holiday money here (unless the exchange rate fluctates) For example, the last time I went to Thailand, at Manchester airport it was 48 baht for £1, fifteen hours later at Bangkok airport it was 53 baht for £1... 10.4% more baht for your buck.

So I would wait until you get there.

They've a couple of public WiFi spots so you'd think so. I doubt that's something they'd have forgotten about.
