Tesco warranty - my experience

Tesco said:

Haha! Since when was 'prestige' a euphemism for unreliable? Alfa Romeo aren't prestige - they just break down a lot which is why Tesco want to charge a premium :D

Ahh I can only get Value cover on the ST220 because of its mileage. Probably not worth it really as they could claim pretty much everything is due to wear and tear.

Interesting choices of cars, especially some of the ones not covered - Jeep for example! and fancy all cars over 3500cc not getting cover....

Whilst they cover wear and tear parts, they don't cover wear and tear to them if you know what I mean. For example, if your clutch starts slipping they won't replace it however if the release bearing shatters then they will.

people on other forums have suggested otherwise, I find it surprising though

This is Porsche we're talking about - So a £245 bill is super cheap!

Even so, it's not cheap. The part will be quite cheap (though with an enormous dealer mark up I suspect) and in terms of labour it is a quick job. Oops, I almost forgot "diagnostics", i.e. 30 seconds worth of plugging a fault code reader in. It's a rip off whichever way you look at it, still at least it's not the OPs problem.

good to see that only the VX220 and Monaro are classed as prestige.

Are there any exceptions for modifications ?

mine already has an aftermarket exhaust, and will soon be getting a remap too.

I know I'm looking a little in advance.
However the original warranty runs out on my Octy vRS in January next year.
For £339 I can get the "Finest Warranty" (£259 for the standard, but seems probably worth paying for the extra).

That sounds excellent.
The car reaches 3yrs when things can start to go wrong and I've seen a few horror stories about Turbo's failing...

I've just had another read through the policy - again it does all look good on paper.
Something that does interest me of course is "modifications".

It does say under general exlusions:

Parts or components, including software or ECU's, which have been modified from the manufacturers' original specification.

But how would you be covered for "knock-on effects".

When the warranty on my car runs out in January I'd always planned on getting a Stage 1 remap.
So I'd probably see an increase in bhp from 200 to around 230.
Now according to the warranty my "ECU and software" wouldn't be covered as they have been modified from the manufacturers original specification.
This is fine and to be honest, as expected.

However, what would happen if say the Turbo blew, or the exhaust exploded or something else silly happened and it was attributed to the fact I'd had a Stage 1 remap?
In theory the turbo and/or exhaust would have been manufacturers original specification - so in theory, they would be covered despite the remap?
