Really strange problem.

I can boot-up fine but after 10-20 minutes the Monitor will Lose Signal. The machine is still on, but there is nothing on the screen. I have to manually press the restart button for the PC to work again.

However, what makes it strange is that it doesn't always happen.

Sometimes everything works fine but other times it can happen twice in a row.

Could it be an overheating problem?

It's been fine for 6-7 months until now.

Try some different drivers, apparently it's a driver problem.

Oh really?

Do you have any links to people with similar problems?

The reason I'm so confused is that the Temps are normal, never goes above 40c when idle then perhaps max 60c under load.

Might try some new drivers tonight.

First i thought my 8800GT died but Ive been having the same thing especially with HL2 related games such as TF2.
Before it used to play fine the next day my screen goes to sleep.
I'm using 182.50 drivers apparently there's issues with those and 185.85
People seem to have these problems with GTX 260/80 and 8800GTS

Trying the 185.08 drivers now, I'll feedback in a bit

PS. my temperatures are also normal, i get max around 48-50C playing something

Hey James,

I had exactly the same problem with my GTX 280 and I contacted BFG who told me that my 'video card is dying', which got me worried! This problem is so weird as my card runs windows and office apps fine now, but it shut itself down (which I believe your card is doing) when I tried to run 3D Mark. So now I've RMA'd it with BFG and they'll be replacing my card.
Depending on who the manufacturer for your card is, contact them. If it's BFG, I suggest you look for another thread on this forum entitled 'BFG RMA question' or something like that and get into contact with Jeff Kozlowski who is amazing at sorting out problems for you.

Let us know how it goes :)

Oh and I almost forgot, I presume that your card actually shuts itself down whilst the PC is still running. Right?

Thanks for the help guys.

But it's so odd. The problems were happening on Tuesday, but yesterday I had no problems with it.

I'm going to keep a close eye on it, buy some compressed air, give it a proper clean and see what happens.

My card is a BFG, and it looks like their RMA service is quite good.
