So I have bought a new car, traded in the ST220 already.

Still, will take upto 10 days to ge my £1,300 back off Bell though, 'funny' isn't it, how they can take it instantly ...yet itcan take the banks anything upto 10 days to actually refund it.

Authorisation is instant, charge or refund takes 'up to' 10 days, as there is no equivalent to an authorisation for refunds you'll not see any change until the refund goes through.

Banks say 10 days to cover themselves but expect it in 2 days.

Well done Moeks, I think you definitely made the right decision.

Taxi for Adam, and can someone give him a tissue as he needs to wipe some egg off his face.

Oh that's one funky dash, I've seen some of these videos before, when you have posted them, including the one of your old 'Vette. What do you drive now btw?

What sort of price should I be looking at for a good C4 ?

The choice seems pretty limited in this country mind, or am I missing some hidden resource for them?

I drive a 325i SE at the moment:

Daily hack until I work out what I'm doing and boring enough that I don't tire of it (reverse psychology trick on myself :D). I have a project TVR as well but that's another story.

Updated my previous post to include some pics of my old 95. I had three in the end - an 86 manual L98, an 88 Z52 (specification level) L98 automatic and a '95 LT1 automatic.

A good L98 engined C4 is usually around 4-6k. A good LT1 engined one can command a little more, sometimes up to 7-8k depending on spec and transmission. You can get lucky though - I paid 5600 for my '95 LT1 auto with 48k on the clock and I've seen six-speed manual LT4s (the 330BHP+ variants) go for around 6k too. Obviously mileage and history is worth paying a premium for in some instances so you can adjust the price somewhat for certain cars.

Go by feel though to some degree - if you like the car and the spec and condition are right, just run with it as otherwise you'll end up just looking indefinitely and not buying anything.

Obviously you want to get the absolute best one you can find, as to never have to worry about it - and you'll get the most enjoyment out of it that way :)

Best places online to look are:
- Autotrader
- Pistonheads
- eBay
- http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/

Magazine wise - get a copy of Classic American, American Car World & flick through the back of Custom Car too - usually lots in there :)

Moeks,

I know you said no to an MX5 but I thought I would tell you a few options if you don't like a small engine. You can firstly get an MP62 supercharger onto the engine, give it 200-240bhp area no problems, will make it feel like a much larger engine due to the way a supercharger acts, especially if you get a coldside charger.

Then you can also put the LSx series of v8 engines in it, which many americans have done and there are also kits for that. Just thought I'd let you know. :)

One of the attractice things about this is that th csot to change from the ST to an LT1 engined C4 would be virtually nothing. Looks like going private for this yields the best results, which would mean I'd have to sell the ST220 privately too.

I can afford to purchase a C4 for cash, but how fast I could shift the ST220 I do not know, I wouldn't want it hanging around for long in which case, as I'd want to get my money back out of it, and both cars would need to be insured if I had them both at once for any time.

Still, I need to get the ST220 fixed, then I can have a look around and drive some stuff. I am going to go and look into those Magazines you suggested, I know my local BP garage has most of those.

saitrix: An MX5 with a V8! :p ...I can only imagine how much of a riot that would be, it's about the least girly you can make an MX5 without simply turning it into a Corvette :D ...anyway I don't want an MX5 at all. But thanks for the tip anyway.

Anyway, onto the problem with the ST220, I am going to call AA Warranty care, should I insist on a Ford garage look at it, or shall I go with whoever they wish to use? ...There are quite a lot of Ford garages around here.

To be honest you should be able to get them to pay for a Ford garage to look at it, it's in their best interest that it gets fixed properly too.

Well done on seeing sense, it takes a lot to admit you made a mistake but you did it and I commend you for it. The ST220 you have is lovely, get your enjoyment out of it and after a year or so then reconsider.

I've just read the thread... good call mate.

I don't think anyone was expecting to actually see you come around and actually take it on the chin like you have. So big respect for that too

I'm not suprised. Moeks is a very reasonable guy. Not everyone here is like the OMG SHUT UP LET PPL DO WHAT THEY WANT squad (Hi Adam) who think daring to criticise/offer a negative opinion on an issue on a discussion from is heracy.

Boring.

I still stick by my comments. His personal finances have absolutely nothing to do with you. Unfortunately, it seems as if this was a buy with your heart and not head purchase and wasn't properly thought through.

I still don't think it's necessary to delve into peoples personal finances on an internet forum. This isn't the first time you have done this.

Luckily, on this occasion it seems some good has come out of it otherwise he could have ended up tying himself down for a very long time to a costly car. Although to be honest, it does seem he was mislead somewhat if the salesman didn't break down the deal like you did.

Well I have booked my car into a local Ford dealer, although they couldn't get me in until next Wednesday :( ....I took the car for a short drive today, and the engine warning light has come on now, solid yellow.

I've tried to do a bit of diagnosis myself, but I'm no mechanic, I can hear a hissing sound from the rear right side of the engine when it is running, and when I turn it off I hear a hissing sound for about a minute towards the rear left of the engine for a while (bear in mind this engine is horizontally mounted). I think perhaps a hose or something is split, I have checked the ones I can get at, as best I can, I can't find any splits or cracks. My other thought is that it could be a seal or gasket around the throttle body area or something. As for the hissing after I switch the engine off for a while, I don't know, that's what made me think a hose/pipe maybe. Not sure, waiting till next Wednesday is annoying though, I think I'll ring around a bit more. if it actually stops on me before then, I'll be stuck.

In my experience Sutton is a good OPC with a good service team and some good people so I am not suprised they didn't make a big issue of it. When the time is right to buy your first Porsche I suggest you go back and see them again but go with a clearer view on your funding options.

LOL, that's proper man-maths!

Nice car, even if you are as mad as a box of frogs!

Yep i love man maths :D

Mate ive wasted tonnes of money on cars since i passed my test, you just got to think its better than wasting it on drugs or beer

Is there any loss of power?

Tried resetting the ECU?
