MONACO Grand Prix 2009 - Race 6/17 Official GP Thread

Maybe they aren't interested in F1 on a level playing field?

....what?

One of Ferrari's major objections to the proposed implementation of the budget cap was that it would lead to two formulae, i.e. a distinctly unlevel playing field.

Sorry - I can't resisit - they didn't mind the unlevel playing field that favoured them :D

I personally feel the two tier system would be wrong, but at the same time would like to see more teams in F1. More independant teams. I really wouldn't care if Toyota left the sport and were replaced with an indy!

I know that most of you don't subscribe to this view (besides, it's much more fun just to go around shouting Ferrari International Assistance!!!111oneoneone), but if the playing field is unlevel and favouring Ferrari.....why haven't they won more than one drivers title since their 2004 campaign?

Something I think we all agree on.

More independant teams. I really wouldn't care if Toyota left the sport and were replaced with an indy!

I'd rather Toyota didn't leave because I'd rather none of the teams left, but if a manufacturer had to go then I wouldn't be shedding tears if it was Toyota.

Hook line and sinker. It's a far more level field now where teams can actually choose which method gives them the best advanatage, unlike before when only Ferrari had an advantage.

EDIT: I'll point out I don't like the idea of a two tier F1 again, but it was just a theory. :)

Having an advantage doesn't directly mean they have to win. The two are independant of each other.

Say for example I were to blag myself a 30minute extra time bonus in exams by cheating a dyslexia test. That doesn't instantly mean I will get the best result in the year but I have had an advantage no one else has, which has at least allowed me to try and do better than I otherwise might have.

The sooner you drop the whole 'they didn't win so they can't have had any advantage' idea, the sooner you'll start to see things as they are.

...WHAT?

Max in a interview with the bbc AFTER the meeting with F1 teams
Max says the two-tier system has gone because all teams will share
there tech.

have you got it now...

We've covered that one already mate! Just because they are given an advantage doesn't mean they will win!

Is this where I mention that Ferrari have had the veto since 1997 I believe...

Along with the heritage bonus they get... which includes money from the other teams. Yup - they have to pay Ferrari for the privilege of racing them..

In other words, it will lead to there being two formulae racing in the same championship - and I'd be willing to bet that if they lose their heads and go with a two-tier system then only one tier will end up successful....the capped teams, because the budget cap will be impossible to police effectively and the increased technical freedoms will be exploited far more than the FIA thinks.

unlike before when only Ferrari had an advantage.

Um...small point. Ferrari aren't the only team with money, so the budget cap isn't going to be deleting any advantage that wasn't shared by a bunch of other teams ;)

Oh, excellent! So they probably had the veto option, yet didn't choose to exercise it when the rule changes ended their winning streak in 2005. Ferrari International Assistance indeed.

***edit***

To pre-empt the inevitable riposte - "But JRS, the one set of tyres rule was changed the next year!" - I'll save you the effort. Consider your (potential) point acknowledged ;)

JRS = lose (again)

You're right, I am fighting a losing battle here. I'd say that the only way to win was to not play at all, but it'd give Wicksta far too much pleasure if I stomp off out of F1 threads again.

You guys do realise both Toyota and McLaren have bigger budgets. Why all the dissing Ferrari.

The 40mill cap and the two rules sets are a stupid idea.

Because Ferrari are kicking up the biggest fuss, and it has come to light that they have been given preferential treatment from the FIA for the past 10 years!

There is to be no two-tier system(even you posted that lol)
all F1 teams will share tech now.

and what real advantage did that give them?

I'm glad they are kicking up a fuss as the rule proposals are mad and stupid. Other teams are also kicking up a fuss. Part of it is down to media attention and of course Ferrari will get that.

And why do you think that has happened? and why do you think that the cap has not been finalised. Because teams have been making a huge fuss.

Times how many constructers/drivers championships they won by $80mil

Because Ferrari went to court BEFORE the meeting so there could not be a outcome. easy really..

I haven't seen it mentioned, but do redundancy payments for the people needing to be laid off figure into the budget cap or would they be exempt?
