Well i'm in the mood to get rid of some of the scratches on my car. DIY stylee!

Never done this before so could someone please explain the procedure.

Is it just a case of cleaning the surrounding area, applying the paint and then t-cut?

I feel as though I could make matters worse and will have to get a respray! :(

I've actually just had a go at this on my Mondeo (silver) and its very difficult on scratches to get a half decent finish.

On stone chips its a bit easier - the best tip for those is to hold a pin into the center of the chip, drop paint on the pin and let it run down - works pretty well

Scratch is on a vertical part of the car :p

Could do that with the deepish one on the bonnet though ;)

Good tip though thanks!

Yeh scratches are a PITA.

I'd be more inclined to t-cut the scratches as much as you can, the colour coded polishes work pretty well. Then just use the paint for chips...

have a look around for dr colorchip, it's supposed to get pretty decent results - even if delivery is a bit pricey (from the states)

the colour coded paints are absolutely useless, i've tried the color magic and the T-cut variants for my car where some scum has keyed it, neither made the slightest bit of difference.

Pete, i'd personally stay away from the DIY scratch removal route, i tired it on my old mondeo when some scumbag ':D' scraped me whilst reversing out of a parking space, and at a distance it wasn't too bad, but close up it was obvious i'd tried touching it up, i had used the 3 pen touch up kit from halfords.

The only method that will give good results is touching up then wet sanding and machine polishing. It can be a DIY job but not for a beginner. You would ideally need to practice on a few scrap panels but in the long run would prove usefull.
