Windows 7 hits RC stage Build 7100

Anyone else really struggling on 7 with 2GB ram?

Seems to be fine for me, Netbeans is my only memory eating program (using about 1.7-1.8gb ram with it open ) Though people have been saying it uses much less ram that Vista did, I haven't noticed this at all, in fact I think it probably is using more for me. Vista used anywhere between 400 and 800mb when idle, and 7 uses 600-1.1gb. Very odd.

I have finally got round to installing this last night, while the installation process was a breeze. i have found my first real problem.

Windows will not shut down??! click on start > shut down. get to the splash screen to say windows is shutting down and then it just sits there, Need to do a dirty shutdown in order for the machine to power down, anyone had any similar problems/solutions?

Was I lucky being able to play COD4 on a few servers last night or has Punkbuster been fixed??

No shouting if it's been mentioned before as I may have missed it :(

Hey dudes,

Just about to install this to my netbook... I'm just using vLite to do some basic stripping (apparently this works ok?) because the SSD is only 8GB! Just wondering if I should go with HOME BASIC edition, as it may save a lot of space? Going by the table over here I wouldn't be missing out on much for a netbook... or should I go with HOME PREMIUM?

Cheers,

Suman

The only reason I was saying is because right now my Windows 7 installation is taking a good 20GB of my HDD. And I'm not filling it full of crap too, most of my stuff is not installed on that partition.

8 gigs is very tight, I agree. Even if W7 does install, I can't imagine it will be usable as there will be no more room for anything else.

On the partitioning question, can i split my first 120GB HDD into two and put XP on one half and W7 on the other? In which case does it matter which is C:\ and which is D:\ ?

I would then have games on separate 160GB drive and movies on separate 1TB. Would these games and movies be accessible to both XP and W7 in this scenario?

I didnt get a response to this post earlier in the thread, wonder if anyone could shed any light?

I put another 512mb ram in, bringing my total up to 2.5GB, for gaming, this has helped as it's using approx 2.2GB of ram at times so is no longer paging to disk.

Yes, but install XP first,

No, well at least it didn’t for me, under the first OS Vista in my case it sees its self as C: and W7 as D: but under W7 its sees the W7 drive as C: and the Vista one as D:

Yes but you may have to reinstall the games under each OS if that makes sense.

Get weird error message before install... I select language and press "Install Now", it thinks for a minute and then throws up something like:

The CD key you have entered is not valid for any version of Windows 7

Except it hasn't asked me for a CD key yet (or even started the install process yet!). Very strange

Did you download it directly from Microsoft?
