I'm buying a monitor this evening, and have narrowed it down to these two; similar price, similar specs, similar reviews.

Will be used for PC and PS3 gaming, DVDs and Blu-Rays, and web browsing and word processing.

The NEC gets great press around here, as does their customer services, so I'm leaning towards that, although I prefer the aesthetics of the Hyundai. Any recommendations?

I had the W240D with a TN panel, It was brilliant !! had loads of options for connections, built-in speakers, pixel mapping, viewing angle was the best I've ever seen for a TN panel and input-lag was the same as my SM2032BW. However, looking at the reviews for the W241D.. It just isn't as good as the W240D with the TN panel when it comes to gaming, not even close.. the input-lag is unacceptable for my standards.
However, looking at the reviews I've seen about the NEC 24WMGX3.. you're better off with that if you can afford it.

The NEC is £15 cheaper so yep I can afford that! Think I'll probably go for it, just wanted to see what people said about the Hyundai really.

NEC 24WMGX3 F.T.W :D

But I would say that since I have one and no real world experience of the Hyundai. ;)

However AFIK be aware that there are both TN and PVA versions of the W241D. The model number of the PVA (superior) screen is W241D PVA and the TN screen is just referred to as the "W241D"

Just make sure you get the right one if you decide to buy the Hyundai.

With them both being PVA screens there is little between them. I personally don't like the buttons on the Hyundai or the fact your can;t have user presets stored so you have to manually alter the image every time you switch it on.

i have owned the hyundai 241d for about 18 months its a great screen, only niggles are the buttons on the front of the screen are very difficult to use as they are moulded into the case plastic.

main reason i got it was the viewing angles, on a big 24" screen you will notice allot more distortion on a tn panel ie you have to be sat dead centre, on the pva you don't notice any tbh i never experienced input lag, previous to the 241 i sent back an LG and samsung because they were so bad.

mines in for repair atm , hyundai are sorting it out, but i could not wait for a replacement due to work etc so i bought an nec after reading reviews.

my nec came faulty out the box, i rang nec there sending me a brand new next day delivery and picking the old one up, thats what i call service !

mine must have been a 1 off that slipped through testing.

if you get a problem with the nec just ring nec direct there really fast at answering the phone and sorting out warranty's

cannot wait to use it tbh :)

Yep, I know the differences between TN and PVA, cheers for the help though. It does sound like there's pretty little by way of difference between them, but that NEC's customer service wins it. Think I'll go for that one. Cheers guys :D

Awesome, hope it goes well for you. I had to hold off from ordering again, gotta wait for pay-day :(

Let me know how it is, can't wait to get mine!

been testing it for a few days i'm really impressed, theres so many colour / speed adjustments it caters for all , gamer photographer etc.

great viewing angles no shift in colours when moving my head top to bottom / left to right.

no dead pixels , i play mine at game 1 mode no speed adjustments brightness to 30% contrast to 40% .

i'm still playing with all the settings, also going to try the picture in picture.

my only slight niggle is the lack og height adjustment (approx 60mm ) but it has a standard 200mm x 100mm vesa mounting.

with the amazing warranty and performance + quality i would recommend it to anyone.

Glad to hear your replacement is okay AVatar.

Have you downloaded the profiles from tftcentral yet? I find their settings to the colours makes a difference.

I found the 60mm height adjustment more than enough for my requirements, guess I am lucky with my layout. Better than my old monitor which had no heaight adjustment though.

I'm loving this screen. I finally got round to playing a hd movie on it this week and was blown away by it.

.

I have the Hyundai 241 and would appreciate what your experience of the NEC is compared to the Hyundai. I am conisdering getting another 24" monitor and was considering the NEC or Dell.

Did you notice a major difference?

I just upgraded to the NEC from an 18 month old W241 PVA and can safely say that it is far superior. Pixels are far sharper than anything I have seen on a monitor before and the 2 HDMIs and digital audio output are really useful. There are far more inbuilt options for various types of viewing and the overall build quality is nicer and seems better thought out. Also a quick go on my 360 demonstrates superior gaming capabilities.
Over time I had noticed a decrease in the quality of the Hyundai (including lots of light leaking, decreasing viewing angles), maybe this is something I should have brought up with them.
Only downside to the NEC is I had become quite used to the USB ports offered by the Hyundai and am now having to go back behind my PC to plug in my flash drive.
Hope that helps.
