So plugged these into my be quiet 650w with the 7v molex leads - no spin up. Changed them for 9v cable- no spin up. Changed for 12v - they work but barely moving any air.

How can I get them working on the ultra silent 7v cables / 9v cables?

Also they come with 4 pin fan header but my gigabyte ud5 has 3 pin headers- how can I connect them straight to the motherboard for pwm? or can't i?

You could always cut off the 4th pin think its the blue one.... I had to on one of my fans admittedly it was a cheap one so I wasn't bothered or maybe hunt out a converter :)

Or just plug it in anyway as the 4th pin just wont be used it will just utilise the three on your m/b :)

If you want to run them via pwm id suggest this cable.

I have 3 of them running of this adapter cable, (use the white pwm cable on the fans) connect the molex to the psu and the mobo connector to the 4 pin cpu fan header on your board, then you can run upto 3 pwm fans in sync, currently have 2 on a TRUE and 1 case exhaust.

Is there no way to get the fans working using the 7v / 9v cables? They are connected to my be quiet 650w and just don't spin up when turned on...

With that adaptor below - is it ok to plug 3 fans into it? :o

Not sure on the 7v/9v cables as i never used them, regarding the adapter, 3 fans will be fine, im running 3 without issue, the fans draw their power direct from the psu while the mobo connector simply delivers the pwm signal to control their speed, my fans currently run at 600 rpm ono and are barely audible.

argghh - any reason why the active fan control in the bios (for the cpu fan) will not stay enabled? It just switches back to disabled upon restart!

Any other BIOS settings resetting?

Try putting the fans on the 12v rail rather than the mobo headers - see if the problem recurs when they aren't on the mobo.

Also, are they definitely not running, or are they just stalled? try giving them a prod...

Does doing this not confuse matters with the motherboard detecting the speed of the cpu fan? Also does the header connection plug straight into the cpu header? So all the fans run off that?

Why is the molex connector needed if the header provides power?

No other bios settings reset - just the cpu fan control one.

Nope, the fans dont draw any power from the 4 pin cpu fan header, merely the pwm signal. The power comes from the molex connector straight from the psu. With this setup im able to control the 3 fans, 2 on the TRUE and the rear case fan based on the temperature of the cpu.

So I got that lead - plugged in the cpu fan and two case fans - molex straight to the psu and the pwm to the cpu header on the gigabyte ud5. For some reason none of the fans adjust their speed (not even the cpu one). I've enabled cpu speed control in the bios and without the lead the cpu fan does adjust it's speed (just not proactively enough). So at the moment with the akasa lead connected, the cpu fan spins slowly and the two case fans spin at full wack, but none of them speed adjust.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Does the gigabyte board come with any software package that allows fan control,? on my asus p5q deluxe i had to configure the fan speed settings in asus ai suite's fan expert.
