MONACO Grand Prix 2009 - Race 6/17 Official GP Thread

Ugh, Monaco. The anomoly circuit.

Hopefully we see a proper race here this weekend. For some reason the only Monaco moment I can recall is a benneton on this track overtaking, and Sutil getting bummed by Raikkonen. Oh and DC in his cape. Hopefully It can keep my attention focussed this year.

Toyota, BMW and Redbull seem to have some car problems.

Was Webber having issues too? I heard Vettel had to have an engine change (so unless something really bizare happens cant see him competing for the win now with the grid drop due in such a hard place to overtake)

He came in with some problem (possible problem) with the rear of the car. Not seen anything on the news sites yet though.

There won't be a grid drop for Vettel, you're allowed 8 engine changes during the season.

onboard camera of hamilton was great, he's on the absolute ragged edge and looks very lairy, if he doesnt bin it he'll do very well this GP. the general lack of downforce the mclaren is suffering doesnt really count here, so he's in with a good chance.

Would be great to see Button and Hamilton on the podium at the same time, bit of a pipe dream I suspect!

Have you got bets on any other drivers to appear on the podim?

I ask this because Hamilton was hopelessly beaten in the last race and all throughout the year, Button/BrawnGP have been the class of the field, so there is no reason to believe that Button/BrawnGP won't win this GP. Also Webber finishing ahead of Vettel???

Nope, Yes I know that but the downforce deficiency of the McLaren will be less apparent here so its his best chance of any race this year to get a win and I know he loves the circuit, he will know this too. Also his speed in the slower sections in Bahrain was pretty good so thought I would risk it.

I dont think the Brawns will be as strong here due to the issues they have getting tyres warm so will place low down in qually which is most important on this circuit, and Webber didnt do too badly last GP or last year here either. We shall see. thats my thinking anyway, I'll be prepared to eat my words as long as you are on Sunday :D

Not quite - allowed 8 engines

Change engine between Qualifying and Race and there will be a penalty.
I believe that FP3 has to be run on the same engine as the Qualifying and the Race too.

They can use any of their 8 engines in any way though.

They also have 4 engines purely for testing.

im surprised how slow the cars are this year at monaco, i would have thought the extra mechanical grip from the slicks would mean they would go well faster than last year.

The times will improve a lot over the weekend. Because of all the normal road use this gets
there isn't much grip for an F1 car :p

I love the shot they keep having of the fast chicane at the swimming pool. The cars look great there :)

aye right enough, but 3 seconds?

after watching all the classic races on bbci last night, all the huge high fences they now have at monaco look really boring :(
