Bought the console last year for GTA, so just over a year old and now im getting one red light and the E73 error message. done the usual turn off/unplug but its goosed.

what's MS's turnaround like these days? bit gutted since it's only 13 months old as well! didn't have any problems playing it yesterday for a good few hours on COD4, just out of the blue.

It was about 10 days for me (just a few weeks ago).

On the plus side, sending it off for repair is effortless and you'll get a free month of Xbox live

sorry to hear that, mine had an error 60 something a few months back. Bought it from GAME who promptly gave me my money back, and I got a new onf from JL for £60 cheaper.

It was out of warranty by about 3 weeks...maybe give that a bash instead of sending for repair?

You got game to give you your money back on a console over a year old ?

Error 73 is covered by the 3 year warranty, so it'll be fixed for free. Sorry I don't know how long the turn around is.

Edit: actually I was wrong, its the 74's that have extended warranty.

hi guys,

quick question. Just bagged a E74 xbox of the bay for 35 quid. All stickers are still attached and i have sent an repair order for it to be fixed with MS. How ever the DVD drive wont open so i'm assuming a dodgy drive too.

When they repair the xbox do they replace the motherboard and the drive? as i know that the keys for both need to match. Or do they just flash the drives with the new key.

Just wondering if it'll come back with the same drive problem.

they will send you a refurb back so don't worry about the drive

turn out they arent going to send me a shipping box and ill have to pack up the xbox myself. what the hell? i take it i just use the original box i got the xbox with then?

They only send you a box when you get to the third time you've sent your console back.

Well it now turns out that my xbox is out of the standard warranty. I take it the only way to get it repaired now is to get the three red rings. How do i get the 3 red rings as microsoft now want £70 to fix the console.

RROD is caused by overheating, I have saw people wrapping it in a towel to cause RROD

they have a disclaimer on thier support section now that if it returns to them and they dont get rrod they will ship it back to you unrepaired. got it sitting snug in two towels waiting on it to die now.

Wrap it in plastic too, which it'll stop it breathing, so it won't be able to cool down

It's terrible the amount of xboxes I have read about bricking it. How come so many fail? (Also have a mate who's had to send his back at least twice.)

i've done the towel trick, doesn't display anything now and just flashes one light so i've sent it back under 3 red rings. if they send me it back ill just use it as a paper weight and buy a new arcade.
