Hi, I'm planning on buying a gaming pc very soon and will be be buying a monitor too. The GPU in the gaming pc will be a ATi 4870 1GB. So basically I was wondering if you guys could recommend a good 22" inch monitor for gaming?

Cheers in advance

I have this dell back at home. It a lovely piece of kit, uses an E-IPS panel, low input lag and reponse time. Furthermore, the image quality is very good, as are the viewing angles. Couple this with a brilliant stand and dell's excellent warranty it makes for an awesome monitor.

i feel it is...especially if you enjoy first person shooters.
im just waiting for the price to drop a little before i buy one myself...that and i dont want the glasses that are being bundled

best check out a few reviews of the monitor first though....see if you would want to pay the extra for the extra hz

Wow - just saw the price. TBH - I'd rather stick with 60Hz (thats what I game at) and have a nice Non-TN panel with better image quality.

how much are you prepared to spend? and what would be its main and secondary use?

Gaming mainly, (Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, ET:Quake Wars, etc) the games being primarily FPS. Also I'd use the monitor for Photo Editing (Photoshop), browsing Internet, etc) Budget wise I'd ideally like to spend no more than £200.

If you're more concerned about your photoshop work as much as your gaming, then I'd recommend this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-032-DE

If you're more commited to gaming more than anything else, then you might as well go for a cheaper a monitor with a cheaper panel such as this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-014-AS&groupid=17&catid=949&subcat=
You also get to experience your games in 1080p..

If you are in the position of buying a monitor I'd strongly recommend you got for a 24" like this Honestly, use one of those for a week and using a 22" seems very small. After all, how often do you buy a new monitor?

Dell's have some high input lag..

i recommend samsung synchmaster, very low input lag, less than 10ms i believe.. while dell's are usually over 30-40

and low response time, if you are a gamer this will make a difference.

basically if you had a monitor with 50ms input lag and played on a server that you have 50 ping on then in effect you are getting a 100 ping.

I'm sorry, but you are incorrect. This review as well as this one clearly show that the dell 2209wa has a low input lag, comparable to a fast TN panel. Coupled with an E-IPS panel, it makes for a very attractive 22in gaming monitor.

You may have been thinking of the dell 2408wfp A00- this did have high input lag, but was improved with the A01 revision.

the 22'' Dell e-ips is the best bang for the money as a multi-purpose monitor (games/movies/photography/photoshop etc.) on the retail market... nothing comes close to it. The only monitor that gives it a challenge are the old 20'' NEC monitors (forgot the model.) which would be at around £150 2nd hand today... The other best multi-purpose monitor that I know of is the NEC 24WMGX3 (my dream monitor :D), however, not many people are fortunate enough to have a £400 budget for a monitor.

I'm seriously considering moving from a budget 24" (benQ G2400W) to a good quality 22" and I've been checking out these dell 2209WA screens. They're obviously more expensive due to the IPS panel used rather than a TN panel. I'm really caught between having the extra screen area a 24 incher gives, but I fancy having a good quality image, clear and sharp with great colours.
This Dell crops up time and time again as being one of the best you can get, but I suppose its all down to accepting, better quality on a smaller screen.
Argh...decisions, decisions:p

Cheers for the links, I really like this monitor, the Overclock.net link above shows it's almost dead on with the Sammy panel - think this is going back on my 'to buy' list. :)

Having a look at the monitors on Overclockers, I reckon I'm gonna get the Samsung T200 20" monitor, I know its 2 inches smaller than the 22" inch I originally intended on, but I'm on a budget and this looks like a good model, in fact so do the T190 and T220. It costs £146 but thats not too bad, resolution of 1680x1050. I'm really only concerned about bigger monitors about performance, after all I don't know what scren size I could go up to on a 4870 1Gb and still get fast amazing performance on gmaes like Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2.

If that 20in is 1680x1050 resolution then the performance will be exactly the same as a 1680x1050 res 22in monitor (standard resolution for 22in) - no difference at all.

I know the 22" inch monitors have a resolution of 1680x1050, sorry if i worded my last post kinda confusing. I was more thinking about the Asus 22" monitor on overclockers with 1920x1080.
