Just started looking at the possibility of travelling to South America and going to the above two countries.

Most likely going to go to Rio de Janeiro and then onto Buenos Aires.

If you've been what did you think of these locations.

Thanks in advance... ;)

I went to Brazil last year and had a truely amazing time. Spent a few nights in Rio (saw Sugar Loaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer) then went on to Foz de Iguassu to see the falls both on the Brazillian and Argentinian side for a few nights then on to a resort for the remaining week in Praia de Forte.

I went to Brazil 3 years ago,and spent a month a half, but in another city ,Porto Alegre,in the south, near Argentina and Paraguay
( I have a lot of family over there)

But all the people keep telling me that Rio de Janeiro is the most beautiful city of the World, and I believe that
the weather is great, the food is the unbelievable ( off course I´m Portuguese so I eat a lot :D)and very cheap
also if you like fruits and juices try everything you can, they have some fruit juices like green coconut juice and Açai juice (Açai is a fruit from Amazonas ,considered one of the most healthy fruit juices in the world)
and the food are very cheap( of course not in the hotels, but in the everyday restaurants, you need to ask for it or walk the streets)

another thing- in Brazil (specially in Rio),outside of the safety of the hotels and resorts,in the street, be smart and do not ware anything valuable like expensive cloths or tennis like Nike and famous makers like that- it´s dangerous ,and boys with 10/11 years old could rob you at gun point ( mostly .38 guns) and if you have a bad idea to resist they could shoot you without great hesitation...

on the other hand,Brazil is a melting pot pretty much like the USA,so you find all kinds of beautiful women, from the blond ones with blue eyes,to the "bronze" coloured "mulatas"-they are hot,hot hot:D

I´m sure you are gone to have a great time;)

went to both for a week between xmas and ny last year

flew into Sao Paulo, then went down to Rio, then down to Iguazu and then down to buenos aires, before flying back out of Sao Paulo again.

Rio is really nice, a fair amount to see and do with fantastic food.
i didn't like Sao Paulo at all, it's far too big and smelly :p

Buenos Aires is really nice too, reminds me of a european city. again, there's lots to see and do here

you have to go to Iguazu (waterfalls) while you're down there. it's an absolute must. stay on the argentine side as the falls are better and you can get much closer than on the brazilian side.

you can fly direct from Rio, and then on to BA

hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you're looking at travelling to an unknown country like Brazil, shouldn't you research so you know how to spell it? Not being overly critical but if you were so unsure and wanted to go so bad you'd do simple things wouldn't you?:confused:

Brasil = Portuguese
Brazil = English

So depends which is your native language really. ;)

How did you find Brasil safety wise?

Been reading a lot of conflicting things.

I've been living in Rio for two years now and never had a problem, but there are places you don't go to ;)

Honestly don't read to much or at least don't belive all you read, it'll scare you more than help you, people get a bit "happy" over the crime problems here, statistically speaking Brazil ;) is in a state of civil war but it's not recognised as such.

Need any more info, just shout;)

Thanks for that.

Pretty much the conclusion I have come to regarding the place.

Seems to me its the same as many of the other places I've been on holiday.

Stay away from the no go areas and be wary of things that are happening round about and all will be fine.

Concerning saftely in Brazil, we were fine as we took off anything that remotely looked like it was worth something, so no watches, jewelry or expensive looking footware and clothes.

When we were in Rio, we were warned not to wear anything expensive looking and not to walk along the promenade. An English couple from the flight before us went out with rings, watches, bracelets etc like they were at home and had a moonlight walk along the promenade at night after dinner and were robbed at knife point. This was along Copa Cabana beach and not in a middle of a favela.

I went to Belo Horizonte for 3 months last October, stayed with the girlfriend.

Only safety problem I had was once when it was just us 2, in a hill top park at about 3am...and a couple of teenagers came and pulled a gun on us..no idea if it was real...but when they saw we didnt have anything valuable (luckily left everything in the car!) they just left. I still had my sunglasses on my head...some random ones I had found on a beach couple weeks ago when we went to the coast...he looked at them...saw they weren't valuable..and gave them back to me!

Apart from that never had any other problems. Also went to Rio for a week, was really good, stayed in a cheapo motel near copacobana, didn't see any trouble.

Should hopefully be going back in Feb/March next year for 6 months...then the following year moving permanantly! Definately prefer it to life in London :) Also planning to visit Argentina when I go next year.
