Green Day - 21st Century Breakdown

Depending on which version he owns/aquired there are some bonus covers or a live version of Burnout after See the Light.

The album is "alright", better than American Idiot, but not up to old Greenday IMO

I think 21st Century Breakdown is a good album and had some very good songs on it, but American Idiot has a better album structure and at least you can actually work out the storyline quite simply after a few listens. I can hear mixtures of Warning/American Idiot in this album, which is good.

With 21CB I find myself all over the place, not sure whos who and what they are doing...or where they end up.. It does feel abit like American Idiot part 2 at times it also feels like they just threw a bunch of songs together and called it a concept album.

Been listening to this for 3/4 days now and what can i say...

Worst Green Day album to date

Sounds like its made for 12 year old girls.

No thanks.

At least I didn't pay for it :D

I'm glad they've escaped their early stuff. Songs about masturbation are great for a while but there's only so long that novelty lasts.

Gonna grab this tonight. Watched the DVD from Bullet in a Bible last night and renewed my Green Day vigour.

I don't mind if it turns out to be rubbish.

Agreed, I'm amazed that it took them so long to knock this album out. I had a listen and just sat there shaking my head. To compare and make sure I wasn't looking through rose tinted specs, I put in Insomnia and Nimrod. They may be a few years old now, but they blow away anything on that album.

Take the single, "know your enemy"..... seriously tell me that this isn't marketed directly at the masses from pop bosses? The "heaviest" song on the entire album is Horseshoes and handgrenades. Even this would be a filler song on one of their earlier albums.

Find myself skipping way too many songs, too many piano songs :(

Can't remember them all but there was at least 5-6 that were instantly skippable.

It's not bad, catchy... but what direction are they heading in now?

I think that the fans of early Green Day can categorically state the direction will be whatever the record company tells them. It's gone Pop "rock" ish, hey if they reckon it'll sell I can see them lining up with a Boyband for the next album.

Can you tell I'm not impressed :D

Or perhaps that's the way that Green Day decided to go themselves. I have absolutely no problem with a band changing its musical direction, whatever the reason is for it. Ultimately they will live or die as a band by their decision.

There's an argument that says they owe something to their fans for getting them to where they are in the first place, but said fans would likely complain if they were to churn out the same kind of music album after album anyway. I almost think they should have continued releasing music under a pseudonym so that they can go with a different sound without upsetting the fans of their early music. I rather enjoyed their outing as the Foxboro Hottubs!

I think this is typical of people, I do it myself with certain bands, however I try and understand it might be them that takes the direction (most of the time)

It's just that mentality of as soon as something becomes big its past it and its sellout.

I like most of Greendays stuff, I can easily listen to the old stuff or the new album and really enjoy it.

They have been around for years and years they can't produce the same music as when they were teens, they have lived life and will have different views when they come to make music.

I love the new album for what it is, If you can listen to music as if you have no expectations I'm sure you can enjoy it. There are some really good songs on this album

I can see your point and I do agree that yes they can't do the same music as when they were teens. There are quite a lot of bands that I can listen to openly without expectations. However Green Day, Feeder are some of the bands that I do expect a certain sound from. It's probably due to growing up around their major releases. Silverchair is a good example where they went totally off the wall with Diorama. Took a few listens but I came around to it.

The reason I'm annoyed is not so much the slide towards pop stuff, it just seems to have manufactured mass market stamped on it. I will have another listen but I do feel that it's a let down for me.

Didn't like it on the first listen, but have loved it since. Honestly couldn't care for comments about them doing new things or abandoning their roots. All their albums have been good in their own way because they've all been different.

AI was crap, and this seems it too going by what I have heard.

They were awesome, now are just whiny, political, emo loving, pop retards :D

I think people need to stop expecting Green Day to just remake Dookie every time they bring out a new record. They're not the same band they were 10+ years ago, people need to realise this.
