Couple on the run after bank deposits $10 million by accident

I wouldnt run i would just pretend i didnt know and buy some new stuff saying i was using my overdraft.

Funny how they get branded as thieves for spending money that isnt theirs, yet out MP's call it an honest mistake!

i dont see how they managed to get the money out without it beeing flagged as a suspect transaction.

surely the computers fraud algorythm should pick up massive ammounts of money moving or lots of little withdrawals from atm's etc

10,000,000.00 NZD=3,869,281.43 GBP

So, assuming the time was less than ~20 years i'd do it, as that equates to a tax free prison salary of ~£200k/year.

You'd do 5+ years inside for 4m GBP? I might do a year at the most for that amount. Probably 2 years would be my maximum for *any* amount.

as mentioned

1) how the hell do you get that amount of money out of the bank,
if you transfer it to another bank, im sure they can trace it and recover it electronically

2) RUN FOREST, RUN... .would be nice to think of running but you would live the rest of your life looking over your shoulder waiting for the day they might catch up to you..

So do overdrafts work differently over there or was the mistake more than accidently putting in a few extra zeroes? Surely giving someone a 10k overdraft shouldn't result in transferring *any* money to them. If the bank mistakenly set the wrong overdraft limit and the couple then withdrew the money then it's more a case of the couple having a rather large unpaid debt rather than it being theft.

Yeah easily, assuming i had worked out a way to definately retrieve the money upon release..5 years equates to £800k/year tax free just for effectively being bored 24/7 for a while.

It's better than that, you get 5 years free board and lodgings in a 5* hotel with TVs, playstations and as many free training courses as you can do ;)

Wouldnt you have to pay it back?

Thinking about it i dont think you do have to. I know someone who got done for fraud and did 6 years. He took the rap for a quite a few people at the time and now he has a fair bit of money somehow
