i also wonder round and eat a whole heap of stuff and just pay for the wrappers, always have done, in fact i do it most days and sainsburys when I'm buying my lunch, i tend to munch on a warm crusty roll and pay for the wrapper, most of the checkout staff laugh however i was confronted by a angry shelf stacker last week and we ended up having a full blown argument... he called me a thief:p

i don't see the issue if you have money on you, any different from eating at a restaurant:p..

In some cases it is. When I was still in school I worked at Tescos part time and used to see people all the time coming up to the till and eating grapes from the pack. That's stealing because they are costed up dependant on the weight of the grapes. :p

I don't understand why people do this. Can't you just put things in a basket and go to the checkout like others do?

i do it all the time , but i always pay for it

i eat a sandwhich whilst walking around (if im hungry)

and then put the empty sandwich box on the til to pay for it..

always get a strange look from the checkout girls.

If you're that desperate, just pay for it and keep the receipt in your pocket whilst doing the rest of your shopping. I fail to see why you couldn't have waited a few minutes, though.

did it only last night, I ate a half size french stick that had been reduced to 10p while I did my shopping. I do it all the time and nobody has ever objected. Don't understand the disgusting habit comments I mean whats disgusting about eating something weird heh.

The crusty roll remains property of the supermarket until you pay for it, likewise the food you consume at a restaurant is the property of the restaurant until you pay for it. The difference is that at restaurants, permission to eat the food before paying for it is implied.

Unless you obtain permission to eat the supermarket food before paying from a member of staff you are definitely in the wrong imo.

Not stealing IMO, it is proper ***** though :p

i don't worry about that my suit makes up for it :p

Disgusting habit, go and eat it outside. :p

harsh!

it's like being a kid in a candy shop with fresh bread for me, sometimes i stand next to the bakery and eat it right there and then

I used to pinch the end of the french stick that was in the trolley while walking around. I was 12 at the time though.

But seriously.... What a strange thing to do

When you go clothes shopping do you also put the clothes on first, hop up onto the till, let the person scan you, then pay for them?

Haven't done it recently but when we were tiny my mum would let us have the french stick, grocery shopping takes aaaaaaaaages when you're small!
I always got told that you shouldnt do it to grapes though as you don't end up paying for what you've eaten.
You always see old people trying before they buy in the fruit and veg department, makes me a bit annoyed..

There's a cheap shop down the high street at Hounslow.

Last week, was in the queue (99p for a box of Toffifee!!, was well happy!), and there's a woman there eating here way through a pack of crisps and drinking a can.

NOT ONLY did she consume these before paying them, but the cheeky bitch also handed the cashier the empty can and packet as she walked off!

Sorry, just grinded (or ground, what is the past-tense for this) my gears!

Actually yes, used to do this with shoes when we were small. We were simply too excited to take them off again and my mum saw it as an oppertunity to break them in while we carried on shopping.
