Ok i have roughly £200-300 to spend on upgrading my gaming PC as it is beginning to show its age and i intend to play cod5 when it comes out. From the below specs what shall i upgrade ? and what shall i upgrade to ? im a bit out of date on the new hardware

my specs

CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz

GFX - BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC2 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI

Mobo - Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi Intel P35

Memory - OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-8500 1066MHz Reaper HPC Edition Dual Channel DDR2

PSU - Hiper HPU-4M730 Type R 730W ATX2.2 PSU

Case - Lian Li PC-A16B Aluminium Full-Tower - Black

DVD-R - Plextor PX800A 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter

HD - Western Digital Raptor X 150GB WD1500AHFD 10,000RPM SATA 16MB Cache - OEM

OC your CPU and bang a better gfx card in, sorted (though you may want to get a more reliable PSU) also get a new 4 gig kit of RAM
btw COD5 is out already - World at War, do you mean 6? you waiting for modern warfare 2?

updated cpu, mem and gfx card, cpu should be nicely overclockable

What is your OS? If its vista or win 7 - a cheap upgrade to 4GB RAM should improve performance a bit.

You have a decent CPU and motherboard - though its only running at stock , you could get some extra performance with a bit of overclcoking (3.2GHz should be easy). But before you overclcok - get a nice cooler like this.

To improve gaming - a nice new graphics card will up your performance. This or this would give you a nice jump in performance and you can sell your old card.

If you do all these things your PC will game much better and the upgrade should be in your budget.

for a gaming machine theres not really any point in that cpu upgrade, not for its cost, there'll be very little benefit
Even if he's only on 32bit OS its still worth getting 4 gig of RAM, though you should look at getting a 64bit OS
And oh yeah should have checked what your screen size/res is?

What resolution are you playing at? It will help recommending a graphics card. So on top of the card, get a CPU cooler and overclock the E6600, getting it to 3ghz will show a pretty good improvement. Get a 4gb kit of DDR2 ram. All of this could easily be had for £200. I know there have been issues with some hiper type r's, so maybe change this for a better quality PSU.

Oh and COD5 is already out :)

This! All stuff I would have said as well. And like others have said, COD5 came out ages ago haha, you got to be thinking of a different one?

If he is planning to try gta 4 on his computer he would fing a quad core useful, I know from experience that gta4 will barely run on at reasonable settings a 3.4ghz core 2 duo

Hi there thanks for the replys i use Windows Vista 32 bit atm but i am planning on getting windows 7 when it comes out. I have stock cooling on my E6600 CPU and have overclocked it to 3.0GHZ since i got it without any problems. I was thinking about getting 4GB of memory and a graphics card for around £150-170 what is the best GFX card in this range ? the GF 260 GTX looks good is it better than the ATI 4870 ?

I have a 22" LG 2ms Widescreen monitor and use 1680 x 1050 in Windows + Games

Yeah i meant COD Modern Warfare 2 :)

You should be able to overclock your E6600 easily to 3.4GHz - that's what I did with mine but had a Big Typhoon cooler. As everyone else says, I'd get a 4890 and 4GB Ram. Download the RC of Windows 7 which is good for a year.

Thanks all

Think i will go for the 4GB of corsair memory (cant beleive its £37). I will also get a good cooler and see if i can overclock my E6600 to around 3.4GHZ and get the ATI 4890 GFX card. I would be reluctant to change my PSU as i see it as a needless upgrade this PSU has lasted me 2 years so far without any problems

You can get Windows7 now for free, its the RC version which basically means its pretty much finished! And like citycm said, it'll work for a year!
