Hi,

I have had one these graphics cards http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-168-AS&tool=3 for the best part of 7 months now and it has and is running fine.

The problem is that the fan is really starting to get on my nerves, i have removed it and reseated using MX-2, and cleaned the whole lot.

Even with the fan turned down to say 25% the temps start creeping up, at idle the card is sat at 50-55 degrees, full load its going up to around 75-80 degrees.

What can be done folks, i thought about one of these accelero S1 things with a couple of low RPM fans on there...is this the best option?

Is the noise ok a 25%, cause those temps are ok?

Exactly, if you can live with the noise at 25% fan speed then stick with that. The 4850 is a hot chip - it will happily run at the temperatures you quoted.

If the fan speed is set at 25% (idle speed) then the temp gradually rises to settle at around 70-75 degrees, there is no way i could game at 25% speed as the temp shoots up to just over 100 degrees.

I should have made it clear, the temps i quoted in my first post were when the fan speed is set to automatic (55% speed at idle) and (90-100% when gaming)

Hopefully that makes sense.

Hi,

I have had one these graphics cards http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-168-AS&tool=3 for the best part of 7 months now and it has and is running fine.

Does your card have a cooler like the one in the photo ... from what I've gathered Asus seem to have started off with a cooler based on the reference design but have now moved to there own (? glaciator) cooler which is, allegedly, much better at cooling (no idea about the noise though).

Thanks for the info/suggestions guys....im going to look into these ideas and read up on them all.

I like the look of the thermalright t-rad2 if i am being honest, it just looks like a quality piece of kit and i have been more than happy with my TRUE Black for the past year.

I have that card with that cooler on it & isn't loud at all, in fact my PSU is much louder. Maybe the fan is on it's way out, I wouldn't know tbh, mines is pretty quiet though.

I have the Arctic Accelero Twin Cooler (not in stock atm) on my 8800gt (hotter card than the 4850!), and it's brilliant. Keeps it really cool (relatively for the 8800gt), and really quiet, even at 100% much better than stock coolers.

My load temps with the stock cooler crept up to ~95c, and with this max i've seen it is 72c. So on the 4850 should be even better.
One little flaw.. it's huge!! It takes up an extra 2 slots; so takes up 3 slots with the card. Meaning it's literally 1-2mm away from my sound card :/

I've got a Thermalright HR-03-GT on my 4850 with a very quiet 92mm fan and temps are very low; showing 28 degrees right now just surfing and never seen it past 40 when gaming. Only snag is I can't use ANY other slots as it's on a mATX mobo in an SG01 case :D

Akasa AK-VC03-BLUV Vortexx NEO VGA Cooler.

Cheap as chips and does exactly what it says on ths tin. Very quiet, too. I've got one sitting on one of my 4850s at the moment and I can't hear it, even when gaming (even with the fan set to full).

+1 for the vortexx. Got 2 4850's in crossfire, both have vortexx coolers on them. temps never go above 60 with the fans on 3/4 setting (have them hooked up to fan controller)

Ah- well those temps are certainly not healthy. The Arctic cooling Accelero S1 rev2 looks like a brilliant cooler. If you strap a 120mm fan to it you will never worry about temperatures again on the accelero due to the high airflow/static pressure and low noise.

Well this is the temps on my 4850 with an S1 & a Sharkoon 120mm fan on it.
