So, driving home yesterday, the exhaust fell off my Saxo. :D

Tied up with a cable tie to prevent dragging and drove home for a pretty noisy mile. It has broken just before the CAT.

Anywho, had a mech have a look who says that to have it repaired right would cost quite a bit and to be honest, I'm sick of the gear box in it anyway so I think I'm gonna take his suggestion and get it welded up and flog it.

I'm thinking of going back to my old notion of picking up a cheap Fiesta.

Better or worse than the Saxo? :p

Depends on what the saxo is and what the fiesta is, "much better" is too generic a statement.

I'd rather have a Saxo VTx than a MK4 1.3 pushrod fiesta for example.

At the time, I was looking at a 1.8 TD Fiesta for the same price and same insurance figures as the 1.1 petrol Saxo.

Only reason i went with the Saxo is because my Uncle had already bought it and so rather than making him then try to sell it on, I took it off his hands.

The Fiesta was a 98 though. The Saxo is 2002.

Only ever heard good things about the 1.25 petrol (the engine that is, the rest of the car not so much but I guess that's personal tastes for you ;) ).

The 1.8D fiesta is one of the worst thing I've ever driven (although it was a MK3 not a MK4, but still, it was the engine that was horrid). It felt like a tractor, and barely outpaced one.

1.4 is fine but not fast enough to justify the extra insurance/fuel costs. The 1.3 is rubbish, I had the same engine in my Escort and it was awful.

get on sax-p or ssc and pick up a second hand standard system. Depends on how much the welding is going to cost.

The saxo will be good fun to drive when its working, but if you just want a reliable car then go with a 1.25 fez.

My fiesta says lx on the back but has a zetec-s engine inside :S

It's very nippy for a first car :D

When I'm in my mates saxo i feel as if i am literally in a tin, horrible, horrible things.

ford are very confusing, zetec is a type of engine AND a trim level, so you can have a 1.25 zetec fiesta in zetec trim, or a 1.3 enduro engine in a fiesta with zetec trim, that kind of thing.

My first car, a Fiesta 1.25 Zetec said Zetec S on the engine. A mate's one which is also a 1.25 says Zetec SE. Very confusing. Get the 1.25 as most people here are saying. Was a cracking little car.

Zetec-s, or later Zetec-se just means it's a Sigma engine as opposed to the bigger Zetec-e engines. They're called Duratec now to save confusion.
