What does this mean? (Bank charges)

I've just had a look at my statement, and have found the following entry :

Statement said:
22/05/2009

Debit -£8.00
CHARGES
RETURNED FEE £8.00
31MAR/29APR **********************

The line of asterisks were labelled as just that, they're not censoring anything.

What does this mean? I can't get through to my bank right now.

A quick Google suggests either a direct debit that had to be returned or fees for just using my chip and pin at checkouts! :mad:

I'm thinking it could be the former, as the bank had to force T-Mobile to return funds of a direct debit linked to the account. However, I did ring the mobile people up and ask for payment to be delayed a while, which they seemed happy to do? :confused:

An unpaid Direct Debit is usually around £25 I think, so it can't be that :confused:

£8 for Barclays or £7 can't remember

You missed a payment and the bank bounced it - they charge for this, £8 is a whole lot better thsn it used to be.

Ask for it back if you like, don't ask don't get and all that.

I think with Barclays they all it once as a good will. Do it again and they charge.

I've been refunded bank charges ranging from £25 to a few hundred by making a fuss of it.
