Seriously thinking of changing my car - seen an 06 BMW 330D M Sport - has anyone got one or similar and can comment on owning one?

I've heard about these troublesome swirl flaps that break off and lunch the engine on the 530D's - my only concern is are these present on the 330D......

Anyway, any help/pointers appreciated.

My friend at work has one. It pulls like a freight train due to all the torque but I couldn't live with the rock-hard suspension.

The roads in Cardiff are particularly bad though.

Hmmmm cheers, yes, the M Sport suspension and 18" tyres were a concern what with the roads etc round here.

Think I'll have to sort out a test drive & see if the ride is acceptable before committing myself.

You can always replace the run flats, so that's easy. I did read on the PF forums that it's possible to simply remove the swirl flaps, with little actual change to mid range torque, might be worth investigating further.

get pics up fella :D

Apologies for a very crap phone picture - will sort some better ones out later.

Didn't want to look too sad taking pictures of my car on the driveway!

It has two personalities - you can drive it about town like your grandma would - and you can be out on the twisties giving it hell for leather and it feels so surefooted.

Puncture in a runflat tyre last week made me sweat for a while - until the tyre shop confirmed they would plug it! :)

Oh god, you'll get them all hot under the collar at MG Rover Org with that, there will be spittle on beards all over Rover land.

Very nice, love the shape of the E90 (although I'm more of a petrol/manual person than diesel/auto :D).

How much did it set you back?

Dad has an E93 (convertible) 330d and performance wise it doesn't disappoint. Doesn't "pull as quickly as you'd expect for a 3 litre turbo diesel" but fast enough. The coupé would be a fair bit quicker though.

I don't know because when I've been a passenger mid range acceleration is pretty awesome. I think the convertible model is something like 0.5s slower to 60.

Have to say, the other thing about it is although it sounds like a taxi when you're driving through town, the engine does emit a pleasant roar when it's floored.

I'm pretty sure that any 3.0d engine after 2005 has redesigned swirl flaps that are much stronger and the engine breather was changed around then too from a filter(that did block and cause problems) to some sort of vortex system that fixed the breather issues.

But at idle it's a nice kinda noise - not a real clatter like the new PD Audi & VW diesels. Agree - on song, the motor sounds awesome.
