I'm back baby!
Anyone know anything about these? I'm still on the hunt for a decent-sized car for karting around the pooches and child. My Clio, much as I love it, just won't cut it any more.

One of the above cars may become available at my dad's work. It's an 06 plate with 90k on the clock - which will all be motorway miles. I don't know exactly what the price for it on the books is, but I'll get a discount and the guess is around £3k.

Any thoughts or opinions? I've not seen it in the flesh but pics of it look OK. Nicer inside than out though...

It really is an amazing car. I considered buying one, but then saved up a bit more for a sports car. Just don't go for the 1.8 because thats a bit gutless. Anyway the most important thing is to drive it first and make sure you like it and are comfortable. THat also is a really, really low price. Even if you don't like it, buy and sell on for a profit. It's a bargain.

Thats some discount. If its in good condition and it really is £3k it is absolutely pointless looking elsewhere. Sure, the 6 has its fair share of flaws (Dire interiors for one) but none of them are relevant when you are paying £3k for an 06 plate car.

Buy it.

Shame its not the current model, but £3k is an absolute bargain. You'll get the engineering refresh from the '05 model onwards which improves refinement and handling. The only thing you'll need to be aware of is that are all sorts of fuel pump problems associated with those TD engines - have a look at the Honest John forums. Can't remember if they're a variant of the TDCi engines but they're certainly not trouble free. Probably sensible to run a year on year warranty with it.

I cba to google, but if the 06 interior is the same as the 07/8 interior I think it's fine. It's not brilliant, but it's certainly well put together, no weird creaks etc, and it's not cheap or tacky. Again, engine wise, if it's the same as the 07/8 then it's fairly refined for a tractor. It's not too slow either, imo, certainly feels quicker than either the Chrysler Sebring or Vauxhall insignia that I drove recently, and quite comfortable. Trim level is decent, they're economical, and not dire to drive; not the most involving thing in the world, but tis ok. Sound system is pants, the body panels seem to flex/dent like anything, erm, that's about all I have to add.

Oh I should add, my family 6 had to go back to Mazda with steering problem. It was eventually replaced (no idea on the details of that, but it was fairly obvious that there was a problem, play on the rack etc).

The TD engine has two different states of tune - make sure you get the higher powered one, otherwise the car is going to feel like someone stole the engine....

The lower state of tune isn't "that" bad. I had a mazda 6 estate TDi with 148k miles on in the end. It was an awesome work horse.

Did I read somewhere you cannot put the rear seats down on these at all? May have been an older model or just the MPS but may be worth looking into.

That's just the mps where you can't put seats down, on the hatch you pull the lever in boot, and they fold flat, without moving the actual bottom of the seat, really clever!

My father in law is just changing his 52 plate 6 in for the new model, and has not had a problem with it, started 1st time, every time, his was the 2l TD sport, lots of kit as standard, very nice car.

It is the estate version in metallic silver, that's pretty much all I know other than what is in the OP.

my dad loves these.

He's had 3 mazda 6 in a row, and 2 626 before that

Always been reliable, never given huge bills and just plodded along and done what my dad wanted them for - being reliable AtoB transport.

They seem pretty average to drive from my brief stints behind the wheel. But then, arent most 2L mondeo sized estates ?

One thing to check is cambelt, as my farther in law had a big bill for it, but then he did take it back to Mazda for it to be done, I think they are around 5-6 years, not sure on milage though, as yours will be high it may already be done.

Confirmed price at £3100. Taxed til Feb, MOT til March.

Yet to view it in person as it is 150 miles away, but it sounds like quite a bargain.
