How would you travel route 66?

Thinking again about how I always wanted to go on a route trip and in recent years have settled for route 66.
But in two (or three) frames of mind how I would travel it (if i ever got lucky enough).
1. Big american RV
2. old/new stereotypical american muscle car. Corvette, mustung etc

Both offer different pro's and con's but just wondering how other forumnites would do it.

You can't, can you? Didnt Route 66 vanish years ago? Not much remains of it today.

Just watched Cars again and they talk abaout route66 hence the confusion, and this is what fueled my mind on the idea.

Route 66 was abolished in the 80s if I remember correctly.

I'd rather do it on my old Z1000ST though

It amazes me that someone can have a dream about going on a road trip, settle on a particular road, and instead of Googling its name to find out a bit of info, start a thread asking about which car to drive on it.

Me too. Kind of cool, surrounded by desert. I did it in a typically American family van/car.

I've thought about this before, and it still exists. Definetly a bike.
You just have to know the crappy old bits that aren't on your standard map.

if you go on route 66 every single shop is selling maps.

I have driven distances on dirt roads, its not fun. (well it is fun for 20mins but soon grows old)

Edit, you would need an SUV / 4x4 Pickup to even think about doing it.
