Diving Package Holidays in Sharm

Hi guys, thanks for all the replies and sorry to resurrect this thread! We have settled on a week in Taba due mainly to price, availability and proximity to Petra which we want to visit on a day trip. My housemate is booking his diving course through the hotel, so I need to arrange some diving either with the hotel too, or separately.

Youstolemyname, you seem quite familiarised with the diving scene on the Red Sea riviera - did you dive with Emperor when you were in Taba? I must admit I read up on the Blue Hole and Canyon dives and they do sound amazing - might have to do them on another trip. Presumably I can do a diving pack with Emperor or alternative company. Could probably do with a refresher dive too as I haven't dived in well over a year now.

So yea - anyone with any specific experience of diving in Taba please let me know! Cheers.

Hi guys,

Anyone used the company 'Explorers' to dive the Red Sea from Sharm al Sheikh in Egypt? Just asking because a friend and I want to go over there and do some diving and are not sure whether to pre-book a package or just do things separately. I am PADI qualified already and he is looking to take the PADI while out there. If anyone has any experience of Explorers or similar please let me know. Cheers.

I went to the Ocean Club hotel in Feb for a week to do my Open Water course. The hotel is a 10 min drive from Sharm but they provide a free shuttle bus when you do your beach/boat dives. Taxis are dirt cheap for night time fun too.

I would recommend them for sure and ill defo be going back.

Great facilities and the instructors and guides were awesome.

A couple of things from this thread (sorry for the hijack) - what do you need to be prepared for on a liveaboard apart from ear infections? I am going to be on one for 4 days when I go to the Koh Similan islands. Also, what the difference between PADI, BSAC, SSAC etc? Im PADI qualified myself.

I learnt to dive with Red Sea Waterworld in Taba http://www.redseawaterworld.com/

They were a fantasticly well run outfit who ran a shuttle bus around the whole resort and pick you up from your hotels then drop you off. The dives in Taba were OK but nothing spectacular (e.g Dahab ,Sharm and Nuweiba which are just breathtaking). The bigger fish don't get up to Taba as it is quite far north in the Gulf of Aqaba but there are some good coral formations. For learning to dive the sites in Taba are ideal though as there is plenty to see in the shallows .Just remember to take a few Egyptian pounds each day to pay for your lunch if on a boat dive.

I stayed at the Marriot which was a lovely hotel. Taba has literally NOTHING to do at night so make sure you take something to do (books, gameboy etc) or you will soon get bored. That said, if you are diving a lot you are up early and exhausted so got to sleep a lot earlier than usual. If you are not on an all-inclusive package make sure you take a trip to the little shop in Three Corners complex as you can stock up on water and snacks for half the price of the hotels. The other odd thing about Taba is that it gets dark very early because of the big mountain range behind the hotels, you are literally in their shadows at 6pm.

I've just booked two weeks in Marsa Alam at the Crowne Plaza there. 2nd largest man-made saltwater lagoon in the world for me to swim in and the hotel looks ace. Diving with Emperor again and hoping to see some white tip oceanics over at Elphinstone reef. :D

Enjoy Taba, feel free to ask any more questions :)
