My car + Car insurance - is it worth it?? What happens if i cancel the ins??

No no, he's on about how you should read the FAQ and follow the sig guidlines :p

4 lines of text max. Read the FAQ

Ah right, I see. I'll sort it shortly then.

EDIT:

While I'm at it. The rules say no competitor websites, but is www.Overclock.net ok? They don't sell anything, but they have a massive well of information and guides there.

Yeah that's fine, as long as they don't sell anything that OcUK does, you're fine :)

I will be paying roughly 2400 to insure my first car ( 306 1.6 '98 - £750 car ) in a few hours

I feel your pain.

£2400??!!! god how bad is your postcode? I thought most of swindons postcodes were pretty good even the town centre ones.

It's Old Town.

I thought the postcodes were good too... :/

I think the main reason it's so expensive is because it's a 1.6. Why not get a little 1 litre? 2400 is crazy money.

Im thinking about cancelling my car insurance and selling my car, the money i raise i will buy a bicycle to ride to work and back (roughly 7 miles)..

The car is worth roughly £300, its got ruse on the bonet, the side panel by the door is all scuffed where the door caught it for months before i stuck a chisel and bent the panel out enough, its gonna need a few jobs doing, roughly 370-80ish to repair, the red is dying pink in the sun its got zero street cred but it does get me from A to B and it is very reliable.

Now the main thing is, the insurance, its costing over 2K a year and thats the cheepest i can find, its a complete joke, £220 a month, i earn just close to 1k working 2 jobs and 70 hours and with petrol, board and my phone i just dont have much left after..

The excess is £250 and i have to pay the first £200 of any damage, so id never ever claim as its not justifyable and if i do loose or right off the car for what ever reason then they wont even give me what its worth, or even close to what ive put into it!

So my question is, is it worth it?

If i cancel my insurance before tuesday (when my nxt payment is due) what will happen? What will i have to pay?

Cheers,

James.

answer to your question is no, it's not worth it. keep paying and earn the extra year as it will probably cost you the full amount to cancel it. it did me...

but saying that though - you're paying so much for the policy if you can cancel it then great, if not just cancel the direct debit and when they threaten to cancel your insurance - let them lol. i made the mistake of being too honest too.

up to you, i'd check the small print on the policy payment details.

306 desirable? - check
over 1.2 - check
bad postcode? - check
young driver? (i hope you are lol) - check

afraid you're buggered. bend over lol

Instead of worrying about outgoings, worry about income. £1000 from a 70 hour week. What is the reason do you think that this is so low, and what can you do to improve it?

Isn't it £1000 a month? He'd be loaded if he was earning that for a 70 hour week - £9/hour-£4000/month-£48,000/year.

Even so, that's more than enough. I earn about half that for my ridiculously low number of hours and I manage to insure a ridiculously expensive car quite easily. He must be paying £600 a week in board or something! :p

You have him some good information on how to lie through his teeth. Actually you didn't even read the op so none of your moronic 'advice' is of any use in his situation.

u unblocked me lol, did you miss me. its use to someone somewhere. better then the drivel you came out with defending insurance companies charging first time drivers in excess of 2k for insurance.

Not defending them. Just against the idiots that try and cheat the system and make things even worse!

I never got round to blocking you, couldn't be bothered.

Well, they have a trading and for sale section, but UK member usually talk about either e-buyer, scan or OCUK, rarely CCL. Sometimes members there will advise other places other than OCUK. That's what makes me wonder.

Great site, though.
