Which of these two mice would you go for? I can actually get the G9 for slightly less than the G5 but I'm not sure it'd fit my hand well, as it looks so big and chunky.

i have the G9 and its a decent enough mouse not worth the £50-60 it sells for in some places though.

The G5 is a very good "palm" type of mouse, Its the kind you wrap around your whole hand. The G9 is a "claw" type of mouse, you use your fingers to move it about as its nice and small.

Depends what you like really. I prefer a palm mouse so i have a MX518 at work and a Death Adder at home.

Hmm. I tend to sit my wrist on the mat and move with just my fingers, but I'm currently on an ageing MX-510 (same shape as the G5) and I really like the shape. :S

Maybe I'll just go for the MX-518

I had a G5. Never thought I'd cross the border into Razer territory but I did.
Personally (and I know you didn't ask this) I'd get a Deathadder. MUCH better and I've only used Logitechs stuff for ages. Had MX-510 and a MX-518 and then the G5.
For whatever reason i decided to get a Deathadder and it's by far the best mouse I've had.

2007 g5 all the way..
When my MX510 died a few years ago I got one as a replacement from logitech after refusing the get an mx518

I've got both a G5 and a G9.

Both mice are superb, with the G5 probably edging it due to it's (imo) superior comfort and better weighting system.

I've only had the G9 a short while and haven't really used it for any lengthy gaming sessions yet, but it is as people above say; a claw grip. With the G9 your palm doesn't really touch the mouse, only your finger tips, with the G5 your palm rests on the back of the mouse.

Both mice have a nice feel, both mice have the braided cable (which no doubt is more durable than the plastic cable) and both mice glide effortlessly over my Razer eXactMat.

The G9 uses different Setpoint software, which in all honesty is pretty decent so far with loads of additional settings to play around with inc profile memory, macro facility, changeable LED colour (which seems more than just a gimmick).

The G9 comes with two different interchangeable grips, one being rough like the surface of the G5 and the other being sort of rubbery smooth. Logitech have apparently said that they're planning on releasing a few different grips for the G9 so I'll have a look out for those. At the moment though I think I prefer the rough grip out of the two.

If I could have only one mouse I think I'd chose the G5, but I definitely wouldn't be disappointed if I could only have the G9 as it's a quality mouse too, just a little different to the normal Logitech design.

G5 was amazing, did move to a G9 tho cos the mouse was starting to get crap on the bottom so it wasnt moving as swiftly, the G9 tho is so small i do find it very awkward to use, tho i am getting use to it now after having for 2weeks.

Had my G5 for over three years now and its the best mouse I've used so far. Took me a while to get used to it though. Mind you, that would probably apply to any mouse. The G5 is big and chunky as you describe it, if you have small hands I'd be inclined to give it a miss.

G5 here, and i cant fault it, in fact i liked it so much i bought another one to replace an aging microsoft mouse on my second desktop rig.

G5 fan here. Excellent mouse, and very sturdy. I looked at more expensive mice for my laptop - and when I got the Roccat Kone (very similar shape to the G5), I just moved it over.
