Does anyone know what the specs trim level of the 2002 mondeo 1.8 graphite is?

According to parkers.co.uk .. the performance is quite good
Engine Size 1798 cc
Cylinders 4
0-60 mph 9.9 s
Power Output 123 bhp
Top Speed 127 mph

not that much less than a 2.0 ghia

Engine Size 1999 cc
Cylinders 4
0-60 mph 9.6 s
Power Output 142 bhp
Top Speed 134 mph

Thanks in advance guys :)

Parkers will also have the spec :)

I could not find it for the graphite model.

Is it a typo/mistake on the parkers site.. but the performance of the graphite model is a lot better than the LX (see below)???

1.8 Graphite 5d 9.9 s 127 mph 123 bhp
1.8 LX 5d (05) 10.6 s 127 mph 123 bhp
1.8 LX 5d (00) 10.6 s 127 mph 123 bhp

i had the tdci graphite, as fox says it's LX spec, but you get drivers electric height adjust seat, 6cd changer / head unit and 16" alloys.

No there isn't a typo, the slower to 60 ones are 05 onwards (as the text you pasted says).

They may have changed gear ratios or something else that affects the 0-60 time.

But the one i am looking at is a 2002 (52 plate) so the 0-6o on that one is 10.6 secs?

according to parkers a 2002 Ford Mondeo 1.8 Graphite... has 50K miles on it

Original Price £13,995
Franchised Dealer £2,260
Independent Dealer £2,070
Private Good £1,900
Private Poor £1,465
Part Exchange £1,630

and wise-buyer

Retail: £2,275
Private Good: £1,845
Private Average: £1,595
Private Poor: £1,335
Part Exchange: £1,725
Trade: £1,623

but it is advertised at £2500.. on autotrader, how good are the those two price guides... I would probably like to pay about £1900 tops.. Are sellers willing to drop their price by that much (minimum £600 drop)? I do not really want to drive 40 miles and 40 miles back.. will only buy if the car is in good conditional and the price is right.

The Mk3 was available with three different 1.8 petrol engines - 110hp, 125hp and a direct injection SCi with something around 130hp. I've never seen an SCi (I think it has a 6 spd box), and most common are the 125hp versions.

I have the 125hp one and although it pulls willingly enough, I would rather go for the 2.0 if I was buying one again as it tends to struggle fully loaded.

One thing to beware of with the petrol engine Mondeos prior to the facelift (late 2003?) is that there is a weakness in the inlet manifold which can knacker your engine - basically some flaps in the manifold wear out and get sucked into the cylinder - you can either change the manifold for the revised one or just unscrew the manifold, pull the flaps off completely and put it back together without them, I have done the latter and see no difference in performance or economy. Ask if the 2002 you are looking at has had a revised manifold put on - and if not, get some money knocked off. If you can hear a rattling from the front of the engine esp. at idle then its most likely the manifold flaps.

As for the price, for what its worth, I picked mine up for £2000 in december for an immaculate one owner 2002 1.8 Zetec hatch with full service history and 57,000 miles.

thanks mate... does this also affect the 2L engines too?

Yes - and don't think that going for the diesels will be any better - they are prone to other, more serious issues with dual mass flywheels and the like.

PS I see you're also in London. If you do go for a pre-facelift car and you want the number for the guy who removed my manifold flaps just let me know - he charged me £60 for that which I think is reasonable.
