Now this IS scary http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8066461.stm
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has had what was described as a "near-miss" with a lorry while riding his bicycle in east London.

The incident, caught on a private security camera, happened as the mayor cycled in a street in Limehouse. As a lorry overtook him, its back doors flew open and hooked the windscreen of a parked car, dragging it for several yards before smashing into another.

And if they thought they already had? Sometimes you've got to accept that no matter how careful people try to be they will make mistakes and leave things unfastened.
You could make it so that the vehicle won't move away if the doors are open/unlocked.

i guess they should try harder - whoever was responsible for securing the doors is liable for anything that results.

And who is to pay for retro-fitting it to the millions of commercial vehicles on the roads? Cost/benefit analysis in preventing a freak incident like this doesn't look very promising on an initial glance.

So they are. Yet still I can't help thinking that even with ever more rigorous safety standards that sometimes inevitably people will fail in their duty and that's unfortunate but c'est la vie.
