Cheapest PC To Play COD4 Maxed At 60+ FPS?

Obviously this isn't the case for everyone or every game, but games like CoD4 were developed around the 360, so performance on them is optimum.

Please do kindly elaborate on this...CoD4 was not developed around the 360...PCs can play the likes of CoD4 much better than a console...

as one person stated: "Prepare to be shot down" and shot down you will be my friend :D developed around the Xbox...pfffft...

The sad thing is that the online is actually better on the console version of CoD 4.

Sure I can play it at 1920x1200 at 300fps on my PC but the game is more fun on consoles. What has it come to :(

xbox owners don't pirate games (as much)

Fact is, if people keep insisting on torrenting games then PC gaming will dissapear, it just won't be economically viable.

If that is true then fair enough, but it was my understanding that most games are developed for the console primarily. Then made to work on the pc. If it was to be done the other way around it just wouldn't work as the console isn't powerfully enough to keep up with a pc's performance.

Either way xbox is still the cheapest and most cost effective solution when all said and done. Unless of course you most game at 1920x1200 or 2560x1600 resolutions.

I now game constantly at 1920x1200 and you are right in saying that these days games are made on the console before the PC...however, take a look at Crysis...enough said.

Games like CoD4 and Assassin's Creed were indeed made for the consoles but this dont mean they are primarily just for the console...It's like Microsoft with Halo...you can only get it on Xbox and PC (still waiting to hear when Halo 3 and Halo Wars will be out on the PC if at all ever!!).

But, and this is where I get on my high horse, 10yrs ago gaming on the PC was the norm. I remember I played a game called MDK, which at the time was one of the first 3D games to feature good graphics. It's games like that is the reason why I love and prefer gaming on the PC than I do on any console. It was then I decided I wanted to build myself a PC to purposely play games on...10yrs later I have now achieved that and I know I can get even better with it.

My point is, console users have us PC gamers to thank for the quality of games they have today. If wasnt for the likes of Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem, GTA (the original!!) and Unreal Tournament, you lot wouldnt have the likes Gears of War and GTA 3 and 4. All I will say is, look at what happened to SEGA. :D

I've got crysis and it is a great game, but paying all that money to be able to play a hand full of games like cyrsis is out of the question.

I understand your statement, Unreal Tournament is still one of my favourite games. But when a decent gfx card that'll allow these games to play at decent resolutions and fps, cost more than a console, and needs replacing roughly every second year to keep up, where is the value for money.

If pc gaming was made cheaper and more affordable than it would be a viable option. But until that happens it's just going to be the enthusiast like yourself and people with too much money willing to keep it all going.

I'd love to have a brand new gaming rig with i7 cpu ddr3 ram and the latest ati/nvidia gfx, but that'll set me back maybe £1000. My xbox cost me maybe £200.

There's a new console every couple of years too, and when you go that way, you're just spending the same money that you would spend on a graphics card upgrade. Also there's a big market for second hand computer parts, so you could always sell your old graphics card or whatever. I know you can also sell your old consoles as well I'm just saying.

Also, one advantage of the console is the almost "plug and play" aspect of the discs. You don't have to install the game on the console, it just reads it and plays it.

I guess the cheapest route to play cod4 is XBOX 360. But that's the easy way. I like to build computers like some people build models. Only difference is when I'm done I can play games, watch movies and surf the web with my "model". So, personally I choose PC to satisfy my dorkishness.

PC gaming isn't as expensive as people think it is. It's only as expensive as you want it to be.

A gaming PC can cost you whatever you want it to. You can build one for £500. We ain't talking the latest and greatest hardware here, but modern internals that are more than capable of running all the games on the market at respectable details settings; certainly making them look better than on the consoles (let's face it, COD4 on the Xbox looks like carp... 1024x600.....yeah, no thanks.)

When you look at the console option, you need a decent HD TV (£300+), brand new games are £50 or so, and then there's the Live subscription that you need to pay to play anything online. Add to that the fact that so many Xboxes and even PS3s die and will continue to die due to poor manufacturing standards, I ask you what advantage do they give you over a PC? My PC has never had an RROD, and if the graphics card dies, I can easily replace it myself.

Sure, there's the ease of use of a console; that I absolutely will give you, but where's the advanced options when I want to do anything outside of the norm? How do I mod the games? Change the advanced settings and customize the machine to make it my own?

The problem I had with my Xbox was it was trying to replace my PC, but didn't have the power or the flexibility to do so. They are great pieces of kit but they still have a lot of shortcomings.

The 360 has been out for over 3 years already, when it came out the current latest gfx card for the same money would struggle to play any of the latest games now out at the given resolution of 1900x1200 that pc gamers want.

Plus there is no news of another console on the horizon yet. Generally it's about 5 years between generation.

Plus there is nothing stopping you from modding a console, obviously you're not going to get any performance gains, but it can be made better, quiter mainly.

I understand the appeal of pc gaming, and building a new system, i enjoy it myself. but cheapest route to gaming is on a console nowadays.

The thing is...I would much rather spend £300+ on a new graphics card than on a console. reason? cos I can. and being the PC enthusiast that I am, I look at a console and I think to myself 'how will that benefit me in the long run?' cos I know fine well I would so get bored of a console after a week, a month at a push. So having a PC that I have spent over £1500 on and constantly upgrading every 6-12mths means I know I am getting the best parts possible to keep up with the latest games. and as reflux also said, games for consoles are far more expensive than PC ones...ok so some PC games are starting to get pricey nowadays but thats the economy for you :D

But doesn't it annoy you slightly that you have to wait for crappy console ports that barely run on your £1500 rig, where console gamers like myself get them on average 2-3 months earlier and run far better on a price: performance ratio? Granted live costs £40, but the way it is implemented is worth the money and the 360 is average at best without it. That's the only advantage that PC gaming has over consoles is the online aspect but since I don't have the time like I used to its just easier to pop the disk in and play, rather than having to faff about with patches etc.
