One of the greatest finishes to a league season ever!

It's hard to believe it is 20 years, those years seem to have flown by. I was 10 and it was the first time I'd seen Arsenal win the league. I remember jumping in the air after the goal, my Dad needing a large Whiskey to settle his nerves and phoning his friends to celebrate! It's great watching the game back again and seeing things like pass backs to the keeper, and different offsides rules.

For those of you too young to remember, Arsenal went to Anfield needing to win 2-0 to win the title on the last game of the season. Liverpool hadn't lost at home 2-0 for something like 800 years, so no one gave Arsenal any hope (they had albut thrown away the league the week before)

Anyway Mickey Thomas popped up in the 90th minute to slot the ball away and gave us our first title since the double in '71. It was a great finish, that still makes my hair stand on end when I see it.

I still don't understand why the 'Pool players complained about Alan Smith's goal! Perfectly good goal. I doubt we will ever see a finish as close as that again, or one that is settled with the last kick of the ball.

RIP Rocky.

I got the Anfield stuff from Arsenal with my membership pack, good watch, literally as exciting as it could have been.

The greatest 1st division/premiership football match I've ever seen on the box period & I'm not a supporter of either team (though I wanted Arsenal to win at the time despite the odds against them)

Greatest football match of all time for me is Italy vs Brazil WC 1982. I had no fingernails left at the end of that game. :D

Even though they finished 6th out of 9 in the Reserves table ?

Since when is the reserves league a 'youth' league? The reserves league has many senior and international players.

The youth team won the League and Cup double.

Just watched Mickey T's goal again, and I thought he was going to miss, the ball really does get trapped under his feet. I still jumped out of my chair when it went in, the hairs where standing up. Great!

Most youth players though with a couple of seniors thrown in.

Fair enough the youth team got the double. Well done to them.

20 years

I remember this kid at School who was the only Arsenal fan amongst mostly Liverpool and Wolves fans and he walked about like a King the first few weeks back at School :D

I remember it quite well - for some unknown reason I decided that Arsenal would get my support that day - just because they were the underdogs, I suppose. What an end to the season :)

I was 16 when i heard about the game all the way over in Canada...remember quite clearly going into my high school and heading straight for the library where we had newspapers etc...remember picking up that days paper and having a look at the sports page where in a small corner it said that Arsenal won the league by beating Liverpool...at that time we never got to see the matches as it wasnt that popular so i used to keep up to date by reading the paper every morning at school.
I actually saw the highlights of that particular game a few yrs back and it still looked brilliant.

Great memories, although as a neutral I wanted Liverpool to win. That's the way it was with Arsenal back then. ;)

Difficult to argue about it being the greatest finish but there was one year in the '70's when four teams had a chance going into the final games. Leeds, Liverpool, Arsenal and eventual winners, Derby County.
