What X58 board should I get?

Thanks 95, but I was looking at the board I had, Extreme and a possible replacement the Rampage II. I'll have another dig in internet, and check back later

Well the extreme is identical to the UD5, just has waterblocks on it for better cooling, and the ROG is the next one up from the P6T Deluxe, so its a good guide still

Is there any proof that spending £100 more on a "Premium" X58 mobo provides any real performance gains over the X58 "Budget" options? Dual Lan, extra SATA ports, 16phase power, and a little extra copper do not seem worth it to me.

i have the asus p6t deluxe and the gigabyte ud5 and the ud5 is better imo because it will take 3 videocards and has 10 sata ports, also no intel overspeed protection.

If your going the extream folding route the asrock supercomputer has been shown to run with 4x GTX 295's just fine. The rev 1.02 OC's even better.

Not if you have no interest in SLI. £20 could be put towards a better GFX card or larger HDD.

For resale alone the extra 20 is worth it.

I have no interest in SLI but I know that I will get more back on the non SE version of the mobo.

Does 20 quid really youo get you a much faster GFX card?

Nope

20 quid is nothing in the grand scheme of an i7 build.

I suppose it depends on how strict your budget is and how long you intend to keep it. But £20 can go towards a much better cooler etc.

P6T is only worth £20 more than P6T-SE if you intend to use SLI. Otherwise it is the same mobo which clocks identically. Some forums (I don't think I can link to them) are discussing BIOS flashing the P6T-SE to P6T. As a P6T owner who paid over £200 for the board, I know I should have saved some money and went for the SE. I have absolutely no intention of using SLI or Crossfire.

Why pay for something you do not need, and who actually uses all of the features on their premium £200 to £320 X58 mobos?
