Quick question. i have a i7 @ 3.6 set up, with 6 meg/gig whatever u want to call it lol. and a asus 4890, which i'm RMA-ing because of the fan bearings broke.

what i want to know is. would this card be good enough with the new games coming out, 1 being dirt2 etc ?
I ask because, if it's not, then i'll get a refund and get something else maybe, or wait ? i play at 1600 x, but will get a new monitor soon and maybe play @1900x. but 1600x suits me good. thats with every thing max,AA/AF.

As some of u know, i had problems with overriding the AA/AF, which i'm going to reinstall windows vista 64bit, which hopfuly will sort it.
but on testing games like dirt. (which i could never run too great with my GTS 8800 512.
even with my GTX 295 it wasn't good,(maybe due to the 2x gpu) which i was not keen on at all, but that's just me)

it runs so smooth now with the 4890. after having dirt this long, iv'e never had it run so good :)

I tried the demo of crysis lol with my old 295, and that run so stuttery.
but the asus was smooth as anything, with everything on very high, shadows on medium tho, as i always put shadow on medium in some games, as it helps a lot. maybe it would be fine at very high.

so i would say the ASUS RAH4890 is a exellent card with games that are out now. (apart from the fan bearing going of course) and 3 Years Warranty is a steal. im not working for asus lol just saying what i feel :)

Cheers.

Can you not just go Crossfire when more demanding games come out?

To be honest (and in my opinion), anything less than a dual GPU configuration will not give you substantial future-proofing at this point. The 4890 is a high-end card.

one thing that is odd is that your gtx295 if used correctly should have been far faster than the 4890. Even if sli wasnt working it still should have been very close to the 4890 in terms of performance...

if used correctly ? in what way ? i know what i know ;) and that 2x gpu card just didn't float my boat in a big way. and i've been using nvidia for long time. and know how to set it up right. first time with ati :D i just think in some games(not all) the 2x gpu on the 295, just dont seem to work well compared to a single gpu setup. i done a lot of reading, where some like the 295, and a lot don't. think crossfire is better choice :p

still though, the even if the 295 sli wasnt working it would still be around the same performance as a 4890.

Well if you are against dual card setups there is not really much else you CAN get.

I'm not against it, it just didn't work in some games, not all tho. so i wanted something that worked in all my games :) i'm sure the next gen games will work well with it i hope.

p.s. when i say dual card, u do know i mean 2 gpu on one card ? not 2 cards in sli/crossfire ?
