SPL Season 2008/2009 thread

McGhee the early favourite to replace Strachan and seems to be about as popular a choice as Strachan was. Daily Record reporting Dermot Desmond wants Roy Keane/Neil Lennon for an "Irish dream-team" to get the season ticket holders back. Others include David Moyes (like they could afford him), Alan Curbishley and Tony Mowbray. I'd be surprised at Tony Mowbray though since he has the chance to manage in the Premiership.

McRod What you call a Celt*c fan with a bottle of champagne?
A Waiter :D

Honestly mate, my new South Lanarkshire Council Brown Wheelie Bin is almost at 75% capacity with Champagne bottles. :D

P.s. I haven`t seen one C*ltic strip since Sunday. :D

Keane made a total mess of the Sunderland job breaking every rule in the process. Publicly slating players in the papers and media and losing all respect from them. So thats a big yes please from me for the job.

I like Mogga and feel he could do a job with them definately. Has a good work ethic mentality. I`m sitting next to Mark McGhee this Saturday at one of his player`s Weddings. I`ll pump him thoroughly throughout the afternoon. ;)

Rmuir, the phrase "C*ltic Minded" is used exclusively by C*ltic fans. On the radio phone in`s, it is common place.

Can you explain exactly what it means?.

I have a C*ltic supporting aquaintance, a rational man, who is convinced that the bigots among the C*ltic support don`t want Protestants in important positions at the club. His opinion is "C*ltic Minded" = Roman Catholic.

I`ve never really heard a suitable explanation of this term or at least one that the person attempting to describe it felt comfortable with.

Celtic Minded means someone who has an affinity for Celtic. God knows why you want to invent religious bigotry where none exists. Nobody cares what religion anyone is, what's important is that they bring sucecss to the club.

Can't you just enjoy your title win instead of trying to bring the subject of religious bigotry into a football thread?

I'd love to see David Moyes as Celtic manager, but don't think it'll happen. Not sure about Owen Coyle. He's done well with Burnley this season, but the goldfish bowl of Glasgow is a different kettle of fish. I'd like to see someone with plenty of experience taking the job.

"Rangers go to Dundee United this week where they look likely to win the SPL. Dundee United could only give Rangers 5000 tickets and these were sold out almost instantly. There were a lot of disappointed Rangers fans. So......

A new poster signs up on a Rangers forum and makes a few non-descript posts. No one pays him any real attention. He then starts a thread saying;

"If you want tickets for next week's title decider away to Dundee United, read here...

Since the away allocation for Rangers fans of 5 thousand is long sold out.

Tickets for the home end is the only solution.

But as we all know, if your not on Dundee United's official club/supporter database then you won't even be able to buy tickets for the home end.

Here's what to do..

Phone up the club shop. And ask to buy a pair of Dundee United kit socks. Don't even mention tickets for Sunday. They might become suspicious.

Then when they take your sock order, personal details and process your payment your details will then be stored on their system.

Give it a few hours until there's a shift change, phone up again and order your home tickets for the Rangers match and because of your sock order, you will be on their system and you will get your match tickets. It's perfect lads."

Turns out, there's no such database and all these Rangers fans have ended up with hundreds of pairs of Dundee United socks and no match tickets."

I notice Strachan is nominating his best pal McGhee for the job....talk about a bitter parting shot :D

Roy Keane/Neil Lennon - not in a million years are they management material

I can't see any Premiership manager wanting to come to the SPL.

Curbishley - I think it took him about 10 years to get it right at Charlton...and then 1 to eff it all up.

Mowbray seems the front runner to me, but as long as the next incumbent has a vague grasp of tactics and can tell the difference between a centre forward and a 6 foot stack of crap, I'll be reasonably confident for next season.

Read that Story about 10 years ago except it was Newcastle and Sunderland.

Former player/fan who wishes to see free flowing attacking football, least thats how I view it.

Just not sure where all this disbelief at Strachan going came from and, at the time of my post, I was hearing the term being used in various places as to a reason for his departure.

What is true is that, like I have said before, our football under Strachan had become listless and he looked devoid of ideas if required to turn a match.

At the moment its looking like Mowbray/Coyle tho I see the attraction in the latter I think it unlikely he will want to walk away from what will be a massive challenge in keeping Burnley in the EPL.

I think it will come down to cost both those managers will cost Celtic to get already quoted at around 1 million for Mowbray Coyle also in talks to extend his deal at burnley.

Paul Le Guen is out of a job though so you could get him for free. :)

Ha, yeah, PLG.. wouldn't that be a turn up:D

Not if this issue of cost is all that big a deal tbh, we spent very little this year so maybe there is cash to spend on manager/player. At least I HOPE there is:)

Couldnt/wouldnt find the extra 500k that would probably have won you the league to buy Fletcher. Offered 350k for McCarthy when 500k has already been turned down according to some hacks. I'd say money is still an issue at Parkhead as it is at all major clubs in Scotland. Time will tell like Rod I'm hoping for a Keane/Lemmon partnership :D

Ok point taken on the money issue, tho i reckon its more of wont spend than cant spend...

Aye, I've seen this going about as well. Being a Dons fan myself we've been having a chuckle at it :D

Slaven Bilic's agent, one Rudi Vata, throws his client's hat in the ring

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/celtic/8070019.stm

While I think his appointment is highly unlikely, I am glad to report that there is, according to Wikipedia, an 87.8% chance that he possesses the correct mind-set to hold the position of Celtic Manager.

Yep :p

Wikipedia on Slaven Bilić said:
Thought to be a common practising Catholic, he has been seen many times proclaiming his love for his religion, thanking it for his success. He is known to often carry a medallion of Pope John Paul II, which he accidentally dropped during a celebration and re-showed respect for by kissing it three times before pocketing it again.

Betting suspended on Coyle on Skybet

Got Coyle @ around 3/1 on Betfair around an hour ago! Stuck £10 on him, looks very likely and his odds have plummeted.
