Hi,

My girlfriend is currently trying to shed a few pounds for the summer, and she wants to know a good routine to use on a treadmill machine e.g. what speeds and distance etc. Her aim is to burn calories and to reduce body fat, and shes doing this alongside a lower calorie diet.

Much Appreciated.

I cant imagine high intensity interval training being great on a treadmill (Could fall off :o, nor would a beginner like it). As for speed it varies from person to person I'd say just go as far as she can in say 40 minutes, then once a good level of fitness is built up look at more advanced routines.

Yesterday I did my first session of HIIT, while at the same time stepping foot for the first time on a treadmill. A bit awkward at first, but it's okay, especially if you've got rails. I didn't fall off, so I'm guessing it should be easy for anyone to get used to it.

HIIT is quite easy on a treadmill or elliptical.

Much better outside imo, doing jog/spring/jog/spring, but the OP wants a treadmill routine!
