A reminder of why I dislike Vauxhalls

We were given a Vauxhall Astra as a hire car while mine gets sorted out for damage.

The design of the console is terrible. The heating/AC controls are at the bottom and all the indicators are marked underneath the rotary knobs which are impossible to read unless you crouch down and sit far back.

Theyre not marked udnerneath the knobs in any astra ive been in. The only thing that is would be the hot\cold air knob which has the blu and red at the bottom. Then again its just like a sink, cold on the left hot on the right.

They are just cheap and cheerful consumer goods, built to do a job at a price. The 1 star hotel of the car world, so to speak. If you go in with utterly low expectations you've less to be dissapointed about.

Saw a 55 plate Corsa C the other day in red with all the paintwork faded, which I thought summed the brand up quite nicely.

But they're no cheaper than Fords and half as good?

Yes thats exactly the one I'm referring to, plus the display doesn't change when you change the temp.

Got a focus diesel now to try from today anyway.

I once hired a car to drive to yorkshire for a friend's birthday. They gave me a Vauxhall Zafira.

I still cry about it sometimes.

You cant say that, Demon will be onto you. He bought one new with his own money!

GTFO. Did he test drive it? It's probably in the top 3 worst cars i've driven. Even the passengers hated it.

Two are still in therapy. The third took the easy way out.

If you want to replace the top spot for worst car ever, test drive a lovely Seat Altea XL. I had the misfortune of getting this as a courtesy car a few days ago...the nightmares...

i like mine. (2003 astra G). centre console is ugly, but entirely functional, my 1.6 8v engine is about as old as the dinosaurs, but really reliable as a result, and parts for it are ridiculously cheap. its very cheap motoring and i like it. its insurance group 4 aswell, it was the cheapest quote i could possibly get, well cheaper than fiestas and all of the rubbish that 18 year olds are supposed to drive.
