If you span back far enough France had as many colonies and influence around the world as the UK. Heck the first british king was a frog (to a certain extent ;))!

There will always be a love/hate thing. Ultimately, the UK couldn't do without France and France couldn't do without the UK throughout history.

I can't help but agree with that.

FWIW I'm sure plenty of Frenchmen are embarrassed and ashamed about this snub. There was one such French comment on the Mail website.

You can't always judge a people by what their government does.

OMG, I agree with a DD post?:eek::p

Whilst I feel we should remember those who have fallen - I don't understand why such a big fuss about Queeny turning up is such a big deal?

Not to mention its not getting embarassing and a little cringeworthy bringing out the last of the survivors in wheelchairs looking like they are uncomftable and ill and shouldn't actually be there.

You seem to imply that these last few survivors are being wheeled out against their wishes.
These men have worked very hard with The Royal British Legion to be included in this event.
Many have spent their own money or raised the money elsewhere.
Why you think their participation is "cringeworthy" I cannot imagine.
I for one still think its appropriate to salute these people who helped free Europe from fascist totalitarianism (and of course remember those who did not return home) and will be there to do so.

I expect they are proud to be there, and may well be saddened by your comments. Or indeed wonder why they bothered when they see such ingratitude and also look at the state of Britain today.

She is our head of state? Plus most of us prefer her to Brown anyway

I prefer her to Brown - I'd prefer Hitler to Brown. And I'm not anti-royal family either. In fact I quite like them, and want to keep them around.

I just think that the main reason there's a big fuss over the US Prez... is because he's going to be there anyway.

Why 65 years? It's a fairly nice round number, sure... and I doubt there'll be any veterans around for the 70th, maybe the Queen will be gone too... I just think there's been a massive fuss over this, and for what, really?

We're British... Stiff upper lip and all that, old boy?

Just remember we're better than the french  - Except for Franglais Freefaller - he knows he's cool.

By all means do. Let's just hope you come up against me.

:D

Lot of fuss about nowt, France has Always welcomed me with open arms, I am Sure if the Queen turned up she'd be made welcome an all.
Why she needs a Specific invite before she will intend just shows her to be up herself.

Of course it doesn't show that.

maybe because the Queen turning up is the GREATEST honour of respect for many of the ww2 vets who are still alive today and would have been for the thousands that died. She resembles what all those Brits died for, even today.

i agree with Malc she should just turn up and its a none issue,

She can't turn up without an invitation, just like you wouldn't gatecrash an invite-only party.

Obviously but one of her aids can ring them & tell them she is coming, Not like the French are going to say No you cannot come is it, Or are you saying that is what they are saying ?

Ahh well we liberate the french homeland only to be cold shouldered. May as well left them without a homeland.. or perhaps annexed it as a southern state of the UK.

Then Freefaller would be an English Don..

I think the people that don't understand this are the people that have never been to France.

Go to France & chat English & you will be told "I don't speak English" & left alone.
Attempt there language & they will be more helpful & sociable than all but the people from Belgium (Ultimate Friendly people)

I am Sure that if the Queen approached them she would be Welcomed with Open arms. ;)
