A reminder of why I dislike Vauxhalls

When I ran out of talent in my 5 Series BMW Assist organised me a hire car until I could get to the dealer to pick up my 3 Series loaner.

It was a Vauxhall Meriva 1.4 Enjoy and it really, truely is the most awful car I have ever driven. It was devoid of ANY merit whatsoever and was SO, SO bad.

The silver lining of that is Enterprise had E60's and W211's in view when the shutter door opened. But he was too young, amature. :D

I dislike Vauxhalls but this kind of elitist nonsense in pathetic, if you cant drive a 1.0 car and feel safe you shouldn't have a licence due to your own incompetence, let alone a 1.6

Indeed, i will never understand comments about cars performance being dangerous. I am used to a car with a decent engine, but this doesn't mean that i feel unsafe in something with a smaller engine.

But anyway on topic, plenty of Vauxhall hate here for most of their models.

The real kick in the teeth is that there was a Merc E Class parked in the corner which was the arranged hire under the like for like part of BMW Assist, but they wouldnt give it to me because I was under 23 :(

So you'd be quite happy to try and join a busy dual carriageway, motorway sliproad, etc, in a 1.0, without feeling frustrated? Or in an engine totally unsuited to the size of the car, and thus, gutless?

Thought not

:/

I'm quite happy to, as I have on many an occasion.

Its a bit frustrating but I wouldn't exactly say it was dangerous either. I drove a 1.2 Punto for 2 years and a 1.6 Astra for 18 months, but joining a motorway somehow I managed to merge in safely without feeling like my life was in danger.

Then you thought wrong

Thousands of people manage to do it every day perfectly safely.

Of course I would much rather be in a nice powerful car, but at no point when I have had to drive slow cars have I felt "frustrated" or that it was "dangerously slow".

I hear this being said quiet often on here and it is quiet blatantly elitist "I do not have to drive a slow car and the people that are forced to should not share the same roads as me and my amazing vehicle"

Happy about the first; not happy about the second. However, they are, as I'm sure you realise, not necessarily the same thing; I have happily driven a 1.0 litre car on motorways and dual carriageways for years without feeling any frustration; at least, not related to the engine capacity or power.

Size isn't everything you know, technique is more important than many people realise ;)

Neither of my cars are fast, but that Zafira was a joke - as I said it's the fact it was so unsuitable and that's why I said it was 'dangerous'. It just needs someone who has no real confidence/experience to be driving it while fully laden, kids screaming in the back etc, to pull out from behind a slow lorry expecting to pick up speed, and the lack of acceleration plus misjudgement of the distance of a car behind, to possibly cause an accident, or a narrowly avoided one.

A 1.2 or 1.6 is far more suited to a Punto or Astra (respectively). The 1.0 bit was a bit of a blanket statement, so perhaps ignore that bit :o

Dangerously slow I agree, that prolly won't be the case.

But frustrated is very well possible, if someone wants to quickly accelerate or is in a hurry, and then proceeds to feel barely anything after putting his foot down, can make you really really annoyed.

Hot is always on the left. unless you have had a retarded plumber in.

As for Vauxhalls ive not driven one i like yet.

In that instance you'd likely stuff a Porsche too. Why would you expect to pick up speed? That's a judgement and if you make wrong calls like that you shouldn't be driving.

That would then be the person driving it being dangerous, not the car...

"You see officer, I attempted to join the motorway, misjudged this this and this, but.... its the cars fault not mine"

I once had a Vauxhall. The back seats dropped out whilst we were on the M56 and my mum went with them. Police were finding bits of my mum for days.

Then there was the time a Corsa killed my cousin after its handbrake cable snapped...

God I hate Vauxhalls.

I think we should have a poll regarding tap positions, its annoying how so many people think hot is on the right!! :p
The fact that there are people here who don't have monobloc taps shows just how far behind the rest of the developed world the UK has fallen :p

I used to have a Vauxhall Cavalier, my boss parked it, at speed, in a hedge; personally, I blame the bosses :p
