Well the time has came round again for our annual trip over to the Nurburgring  Leaving tomorrow evening for the ferry from Newcastle over to Amsterdam where well arrive 9am sat morning, and then its the 3 1/2 hour drive down to the ringside campsite which will be our home and pit area till tuesday.

This will be my 3rd time over there, but the first time actually driving a decent car round it, my newly purshased ep3 CTR (had my 1.8 mk4 Astra for the last 2 trips and managed a respectable 10min 15 last year) Cant wait to see how it handles on track, I'm sure it will leave me with a huge smile on my face :D Well either that or I'll bin in and then go find a tree to hang myself before they issue the bill! :p

The other motors going are an RS4, Aprilla RSV Mille, and 2 Gixers, so there'll not be much chance of me keeping up with those guys on track!

Will be taking plenty of pics, and if we can rig up the in car camera tomorrow morning there'll be track footage aswell so will post those on my safe return, I hope! :D

Have fun, stay safe! can't wait for the pics/video! :)

Thanks, heres the pics from last years trip as a taster http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17875921&highlight=startername_dale1uk

How easy is it go do something like this, is it with a club you're a member of or something?

Hopefully will be posting similar end of this year or beginning of next

It's extreamly easy to do, book time off work, book ferry/tunnel crossing and thats about it. Camping is just a matter of turning up at the campsite and paying, think its about 10 euro each per night, or you can just stay at one of the hotels. Lap tickets are bought at the track, currently I think its around 17 euro per lap but works out cheaper if you buy more.

I cant recommend it enough, no matter what car you have. I've had 2 of the best lads hols in my life on our last trips, and the fact I was only in a 1.8 astra didnt take anything away from it at all :)

You do know that you can get track day insurance cover...?

You can, but when you see the price and the excess charges should you need to claim then unless you've got some serious metel to protect then its not really worth it. Just drive with this in mind and you should be fine :p

if youre camping, do any of you bring tools or parts?

We just take over a faily basic tool kit to get us out of trouble if needed. The cars and bikes have all been checked over to make sure there are all ok so it'll hopefully be a trouble free trip. If not the european breakdown cover will be called on :)

Fair play - i've never checked the cost, just wanted to make sure :)

Sorry to rain on your parade on the campsite, but it was €26 per night per person when I went in September. It makes it very expensive for a campsite bearing in mind some of the B&Bs can be had for circa €30-35. We were predicting €10 too and were quite disappointed when we arrived. On a more positive note, I hope you have a great time. I'm close to being able to book a trip myself fairly soon, though I'm hoping that the Exchange rate will become more favourable! You should have masses of fun in the new car compared with the Astra. Looking forward to pics!

Sounds about right actually. I mean I don't did 6mins by using a Murcielago GTR.*

If you look here, you'll see that the time is about right compared to other's. :)

*in Project Gotham Racing on the 360 :p

Yeah i had a look, it does seem like the going time. i just figured since Mr JC barely scraped under 10mins in his diesel S-Type that it was a bit far fetched, saw his youtube vids as well, impressive :) Must get down there in somone elses car hopefully!

I envy you! I went on my first trip to the 'ring in April for a week and have well and truly been bitten by the bug, really want to go back out there this year but am waiting till next year and hopefully doing a closed track day with some tuition :)

As for organising your own trip, so easy. I organised ours - albeit for only 3 cars, stayed at Ringhaus for a week and got the ferry over to Amsterdam and the ferry back via Calais (big mistake, next time getting the ferry back from Amsterdam lol) and that was that!

My claim to fame was passing a Gallardo on the back straight :D

He may or may not have been limited to 3000rpm by the marshalls ;)

Its a good trip but i wouldn't want to camp, for the cost of a hotel i just don't see the point of putting up with being in a field without power etc. I stopped in the Hotel am Tiergarten last time, think it was £90 a night but well worth it, but the place next door is around £30 a night for a room and when i went the first time i stayed down the road for around the same.

I find the drive over and the roads around the Nurburgring lots of fun, i also think its best to go in a smaller group rather than a huge group of you, last time we went out we had around 10 of us even this made booking a table in The Pistenklause a slight challenge on some evenings.

Clearly its the car you take or cars you go with that make the difference, needless to say i'm yet to be disappointed
