Diablo 2 over Battle.net during the infamous hacking era. Played it solidly for 3yrs with members of alt.games.diablo - a newsgroup on usenet.

The best? After becoming addicted to proper RPG's because of Baldurs Gate, I fell in love
with Ultima Online for 5yrs+. I gave up in 2003 iirc with the Age of Shadows expansion.

Could have been Quake 2 or StarCraft, but maybe something earlier.

WoW is the best I suppose.

First was probably Quake, like others on dial-up.

Grand Prix Legends was in many ways the best, again dial-up before the days of broadband. GTR2 is the weapon of choice these days.

First game for me which had an online element was VGA Planets starting about 1994. That was a damn good game for its time, games could go on for months. First proper internet online game would have been Quake on dial up.

first would have been Medievia which was an old text MUD in mid 90's which I have just checked is still going, although how many people still play I have no idea, I might have to get a copy of mudmaster again and try it.

Best I think would have to be wow - thankfully I have managed to leave that well and trully behind for over 18m now though

Doom, dialup. Jesus wept. Felt like moving planets getting things going "online".

Internet wise, Quake (and Qworld)...little bit of that before spending 4 odd years of my life playing Q2.

First online game was TFC via a 56k modem, I was in a clan and we played in several UK leagues at the time. I remember being very envious of my mates 64k ISDN line because he could manage pings of less than 200!!

My first ever MMO was Ultima Online

I used to run regular DM in Doom over a null modem cable, classic!
