RMT have balloted to strike it seems, yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Hopefully it will be called off, but it seems as ever that Crow thinks that RMT members should be immune to redundancies. Wish I worked for them and earned nigh on £40k for driving the trains (well let central and victoria lines drive themselves, and perform their tasks of opening and closing doors), get 80% national rail discount, and a free All zones london travelcard.

Ahh well looks like its gonna be another summer of misery on the tubes...heres a quote from that link that made me chuckle...wish it would happen.

Bunch of over paid under worked idiots. Why does everyone else have to face redundancies but bob crowe think it somehow doesn't affect his union members. I think we the pubkic should strike and not use the tube for a few weeks - that will give LU the ammunition to start laying off these overpaid workshy morons

I can't wait for the Olympics. No doubt they'll strike for the three weeks of the games if they don't get their pay doubled.

Bob Crow and his cronies are giving the decent, respectable unions in this country a bad name.

I don't generally agree with Margaret Thatcher's policies, but in this case I think we need to get Thatcherite on them - Sack the bloody lot of them, ban the RMT, and re-hire on less favourable terms. It'd be utter chaos on the Tube, but it'd serve the bloody lot of them right. Who the hell does he think he is? It's a recession and the previous terms were unsustainable even before credit got crunched (which is why Metronet went bust in the first place).

PS - Looking forward to obvious answers. ;)

I'm with you, BUT, guess who'd take the jobs and then all the other workforces would come out in protest saying the jobs have gone to Johnny Foreigner.

Can't win.

Never understood why bus drivers and train drivers get paid so much. Not exactly rocket science.

Good on them. I'll back anyone who stands up for their rights. Anyone knocking the work that the RMT members do only have to look at the chaos that ensues when they do strike.

Some people might like to travel into work, or drive in in a beamer or merc. ;)

edit - in regards to Malt Vinegar :)

Not train drivers if that article (and TfL) are to believed. Best make your own mind up there as I'm sure there's a back story somewhere.

If it's office staff then it may be ok. but without maintenance workers and other key roles. you will lose the safety aspect and that is never good. Which is why I asked. Although I don't know how the tube is run.

Knackers, just when I'm going to need the Tube to get across London for the England game on the 10th.
Has this idiot seen the state of some of the other industries in this country?
people are taking pay cuts, etc to stay in a job. While Crowe still sits in his position getting a salary telling people to strike and lose further money.

What "rights" are they standing up for exactly? Seems like they just want more money and don't want anyone to be made redundant despite the fact we're in a recession.

Frankly they need to get a grip, they already have pretty cushy jobs.

The sooner we can get automated trains on there or semi automated (DLR style - with some **** to push a button to open the doors) the better.

I don't understand why these people are allowed to strike. They form part of a service that is vital to the running of our country, and their striking is selfish and annoying. Doctors aren't allowed to strike because of the dire consequences which would ensue, so while on a slightly different level, tube drivers striking also has dire consequences.

ow *@!*@?!^~#*18*(

That is only when I'm going to London for 2 days!!

I'm surprised they are allowed to strike as they only have a voter turnout about 30%

stupid tube drives

/rant over/
